Air Con - Bit Smelly - Any Suggested  Remedies?
« on: 05 August 2008, 22:39:26 »

Hi Guys,
Have not used the "Miggy" that much recently & I don't use the air con that much either.  But have noticed that there is a strange sort of "Musty" smell in the car when it is switched on.
Even after 30 mins of running the smell is not as strong but is still noticeable.

Any ideas please.  Cheers, Big Al  :y :y :y :y

Used the comma version of those, quite effective, very good all over air freshner, maybe you need a full regas and vac out though?

something like this. Loads of variation on theme though.

Thanks Andy,

Has  Anyone tried this stuff ?

If it does what it says on the tin - it should work- shouldn't it !

I'll give it a go -- only 7 quid - so no big deal on cost  :y

Sweaty Socks Eh!  Not sure about that .  But I was looking to see if SWMBO had left a pair of her "Skimpies" under  the passenger seat -  ;D ;D ;D ;D

you get fungus build up in the pipes if you dont use the A/C regularly (even in the depths of winter - run it for a bit each week)

thats the smell - dunno if those cans would clear it - i used them once or twice - covers the inside of the car with a white liquid!!  - still not sure what it did to the AC tho  :-?

The Musty smell is actually a build up of bacteria in the A/C system. You can try some of the DIY remedies but I found the best treatment was to have it done by an A/C specialist. They run stuff through the system that deadorises and kills off the bacteria. Costs a bit more than DIY treatments but worth it in my opinion. :y

Thanks guys for the help.
Tried the  DIY "Air Con" deodoriser stuff today.   Seems to have worked very well.

We'll see how long it lasts.  If the aroma comes back I will try an AC specialist for a service & gas etc.

PS.  SWMBO was not impressed when I suggested that I thought she may have left a pair of her "Knix" under the seat. Dog House for me now!  :-[ :-[ :-[     ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

The cans seem to help with the smell, but if you dont use AC, it soon seems to come back...

Thanks TB.  will use the AC more now and then run it at least once a week during winter as suggested.  Regards, Al   :y :y
