Still misfiring!!!
« on: 25 September 2008, 15:16:06 »

Hello again folks
Some of you may remember my posts over the last 5 weeks or so, well the snag hasn't gone away despite cleaning the breathers, throttle body not forgetting the little hole! replaced the Dis pack, cam sensor and new plugs and bought a Code reader t help things along. Now the car dosn't run cleanly when warmed up(it used to run well after about 1/4 mile)
The fault is always a P0303 no 3 pot missfire and on clearing the fault it returns within a minute of start up. there has been other codes but 0303 has been there throughout, but on checking the plug it looks to be a good colour , I'm at a loss has anyone else any ideas please.
(Seems that there is a rash of similar snags reported in Swindon - Taxi driver - Help

Have you done a compression test on all 4 cylinders and was No 3 down on figures, if that has been done and all within spec then the cause could be a faulty injector or solonoid causig the problem. Are the leads good and firmly pushed onto the dis pack, was the dis a new part or second hand, are the spark plugs new, and finally is the plug to the dis pushed in and making a good connection. just asking the normal ?'s as more than likley it is something silly causing it.

I agree with Gary. Look for an internal engine problem (compression test) or, more likely, the injector on that cylinder. I believe a wiring problem to the injector would throw a fault code so chances are it's blocked or sticky.

What condition is the plug in on that cylinder? Does it look like the others or is it more / less sooty. Does it get wet with fuel?

Also, you could try swapping the injector on that pot with one of the other cylinders and see if the problem moves with the injector.

If the injector looks like the problem source a second hand set of injectors or send them to a place like this for cleaning: http://www.injectorcleaning.co.uk/

Thanks all for the suggestions, I too think it may be a silly snag, all the parst have been new from the local dealer except the plugs, NGK from the shop I've used for 14 years. the No 3 plug looks great when pulled, light and clean on the insulator. I havn't checked the compressions but will try tomorrow(if I can find my long nozzled tester!! I had the same code snag with the old Dis pack and again on the new one, to me it would be strange and unlucky to get the same snag again on a new GM part. I have been using good petrol and adding injector cleaner to try to isolate that problem, perhaps too much of a good thing etc, Ill have a look at them tomorrow also. I'm recovering from a small stroke , so It's good to have things to do - tomorrow! i have thought it may be a wiring snag from whatever sends the signal to the Dis Pack and how it is routes through the various sensors, amnaging wiggly amps is a black art I'm afraid.

It's about 1 year old - 4-5000 miles, I've even tried running without it. Checked the MAF which is clean.
