which spark plugs??
« on: 17 February 2009, 08:50:53 »

Some kind soul is doing my rocker covers this weekend. I figure while we're in there might as well drop new plugs in as i dont know when they were last changed. I know the current ones have been bathing in 10-40 for some time though.

Any reccomendation on plugs? Is iridium the way to go? Considered NGK and Denso, both standard and iridium varieties.

Iridium are supposedly better but I'm not convinced these mods that last however many thousand miles are a good thing. I've come across too many filthy disgusting nasty K&N filters that have been left in far too long and can't be doing any good.

Am i better off with standard and changing them at the reccomended interval?

Vauxhall's plugs bought on Trade Club are the ones to use, they cost bugger-all too.

Hi

I used Bosch Super4 in my Senator 3.0L.
4 electrodes, and always gave good results.
But, they are expensive...

.. and the 4 electride GM ones are basically the same as Bosch Super 4's.

They last 80k miles. How much better a plug do you want than that?

Personally, I wouldn't leave them in that long as they'll either sieze or work loose.

You need to be careful what you put in a Senator. Some upset the gerabox ECU  :-/  :-/ don't ask me how...... something about spurious voltage spikes.  :-?   :y

Use NGK or Vx's own and you shouldn't go wrong.

NGK from my local factors £17.94. Seems reasonable.

Not too bad if it's a set of 6...

IIRC the 4 electrode ones are about 3 quid a pop on TC from a dealers.

I personally would recommend Vx/Opel own twin prong part no. 009195109, £12.12 ex-vat with TC for six. ;)

Multi electrode spark plugs offer only one benefit......extended service life!

They can also shield the flame front which is not ideal

So, dont bother wasting your money on 4 electrode plugs, the twins are the best compromise

fitted denso irridium plugs with magnacore leads in the prelude in past and did actually find them an improvement over the Bosch 4s
