Hi all,
Just started to get intermittent Traction Control and ABS warnig lights coming on, at the same time the speedo stops working therefore the cruise control also stops.
The engine, brakes in all other repects seem fine.
Sometimes do a journey and all lights off and speedo/cruise working well.
Anyone got any suggestions?

Unfortunately it'll be the ABS ECU. Bit of a pig to change and quite expensive.

Cheapest option is to get the numbers of of yours and PM one of the breakers on here

Re Cems reply, is the ABS/ECU repairable or is it a trip to Vx dealers for a new unit or maybe a breakers?
Is this an urgent repair, I take that ABS is important.
I have not noticed power steering is heavier during times when warning lights are on.

Some here have used this place BBA-reman however I seem to remember MarksDTM suggesting elsewhere that was cheaper.
You'd need a remortgage on your house & a tub of Vaseline if you go to Vauxhall, but if you go 2nd hand you need one off the same kind og car, or A N Other reprogramming to your car.

Its not urgent, just annoying having the lights on and no speedo...obviously you are without ABS and TC will be off but there are many cars out there without ABS anyway...just be a bit more careful with your driving...

Second hand one from a breakers will set you back £40 or so...BBA reman with recondition your old one for £120ish...

Can be replaced in under an hour and doable yourself with little knowledge and some help...

I am trying to find out the numbers on the ABS/ECU on my car so I can organise it's replacement in one session under the bonnet, is that unrealistic? The earlier reply seems to say the ecu is somehow paired/matched to the engine and I must have an identical replacement is that so? Are they readable' in situ or via a electronic reader?
If I get a secondhand ecu will it need a visit to a tech2 wizard to 'reprograme'? before fitting.
OR
Can the replacement secondhand ecu be fitted and then reprogrammed in situ resulting in the unit then sorting out my ABS/TC/Speedo and cruise control?
Sorry for all th questions, just trying to get my head around the task.

AFAIK as long as you have the same basic type of ECU the configuration will be for engine size and type of transmission, etc. It will still basically drive until this is configured correctly, perhaps with loss of ABS functionality and an EML, but no worse than a failed ECU in the first place. All do-able with a Tech 2 and I'd be happy to help there.

Bear in mind that this is a common problem so a 2nd hand ECU that's yet to fail might be a slightly more risky solution than an ECU that's been repaired but does avoid the car being off the road during the refurb. Probably worth keeping the old ECU as a spare just in case.

You should probably use a Tech 2 after fitting to bleed the ECU although whether you can get away without probably depends how comprehensively it has been drained since removal.

It is located on the right hand side of the engine as you look from the front of the car. Between the engine and baterry under the power steering reservoir. Its location doesn't lend itself to looking for part number or indeed getting the part on and off.

Do a search on the forum on ABS ECU. I think there is a guide too with photos.

This is a strange one, I get all these symptons occasionally when I am towing my box trailer. It only occurs when I am using the indicators and brake light together. I assumed this to be a wiring fault on the trailer wiring, something like a bad earth connection as it does not do it all the time, and is back to normal after stopping the engine and re starting it.
