I am afraid I have to disagree with you here...

I think a Cav would beat an Omega on corners and twisting roads, certainly quicker off the mark, Pete proved this at York. In a straight line the Omega would no doubt catch up and probably over take given the straight road was long enough.

Guy your car is nice but actually no different than anyone elses MV6, granted is a Manual but Jaime's MV6 auto with 155,000 odd miles on the clock (which is the same as my MV6) beat Dundee's manual on the strip which The Master has played with....  :y

Would have thought the MSD tunes GSi and Super tourer Vectra's would get the nod, being about 200bhp and a fair bit lighter than our barges. Aparently they were supposed to be well sorted on the twisty stuff with the 17's and 215's.

The type of brakes fitted (disc or drum) is no indication whatsoever of how much power a vehicle has, or how well it is likely to perform.

In fact, the rears are only responsible for 25% or so of the stopping power when you apply the brakes....it's the fronts that do the majority of the work.

Omega (particularly manual) can get the power down better, so may initially get going faster that the FWD ones. Also, the better multiram system will help here.  Once rolling, the better power to weight of the chavaliers will show, particularly against the 2.5 Omegas. The 3.0 will probably outrun still.

With cars of this age, its down to how well the engine has been maintained though.

My MV6 auto has done a 0-60 in 7.7s, I reckon a manual box on an engine in similar condition should manage a 7s.

Lastly, the 3.2 GSi veccy isn't slow in a straight line once you have it in 2nd gear. That may beat the lot.

Not a chance, the Omega will leave the cav for dust in any tight corners

i had a 2.5 V6 vectra st200 which i then spent 3K on with courtenay bits, i still think any of my mv6's would have been as quick of the mark if not a hair sharper and definately beat it up the gears, My personal preference is the 3.0 V6 as it revs harder than the 3.2's and in my experience doesnt suck the juice quite as much :P

I had a lovely Cavalier V6 auto (Diplomat) a few years back, and that certainly shifted.....but I reckon - as per most others here - that the 3.0 V6 Omega should have the edge over a reasonable stretch..... For sure, the power-to-weight would swing the balance in the Cav/Cal favour up to circa. 40-60 let's say, but I think that the Omega would begin to strecth its legs beyond that.
My Elite is a manual and I think gearing may be another issues here, i.e. 2nd goes nicely past 60 and 3rd past 90......
And as for windy stuff, although the Omega is big and heavy, RWD with the right driver ftw !
That said, our other car is a Seat Toledo Turbo, and that is a whole different kettle of fish  ::)
