Radiator Removal 2.5TD (Auto/aircon variant)
« on: 26 July 2009, 16:42:05 »

Hey guys, I'm just about to start removing my rad in an attempt to unblock it with some Fernox cleaner.

So having a quick look all I can see is the viscous fan, the two main hoses, a temp switch and a banjo fitting that needs to come off along with unbolting the thing and taking off those two big clips at the top.

Have I missed anything?

if an auto, the gearbox pipes.

For some reason I had to disconnect the aircon on mine, can't exactly remember why (I had to remove condensor anyway)

The gearbox pipe, would that be the one with the banjo bolt fitting down on the left-hand side as you look in?

I could do with not having to disturb the air-con system as well as that's another £40 needing spent on regassing the bloody thing.

thats the gearbox bolts. You will have to recheck atf level afterwards.

As said, can't remember if I had to disconnect a/c purely to get rad out

Don't think condensor rad has to be disconnected to remove coolant rad. Biggest hassle will probably be the viscous coupling fan.
Don't forget...it's a l/h thread. :y

(and don't start TB off on 2.5td viscous fans ::))

Lol, I've had a couple of cars over the years with viscous fans hence I have a knack for getting them off quite quickly. :)

Radiator is now out of the car ready for it's flush etc.

When using this Fernox stuff, is it a 50/50 mix then let it sit overnight?
