2.5 V6 slow coolant loss and oil mayo

Just replaced camcovers - serious leak, oil all over the place, in the plugs, so changed them too. Mayo like scum now appearing in oil filler tube and slow loss of coolant.

Does this point to corroded oil cooler, or could it be something else? No oil appearing in the coolant tank.

Also having intermittant starting problems, assumed this was down to the plugs being oiled up from the leak, but still an issue. Can only think this could be crankcase sensor, but had a look and it seems OK. Once the car is started it drives perfectly.

Any ideas/advice greatly appreciated.

Have you checked you hbv for the coolant leak? or can you see anywhere  were you are loosing coolan?
mayo in the filler cap is normal, its due to short runs, nothing to worry about.

Did you change your leads too? They may well be fried having been sat in all that oil.
As for the creamy cap, I'm not sure but it may be possible that some water got into the system during cam cover change and it could just be evaporating off, producing your mayo.

Theres no chance of that mate the only water pipe that you remove is a small one on the pleunum which could fill up the front plugs with water,
Have you checked your front plugs for water?

No water in plugs, can't see leak coming from anywhere.

Have wiped out mayo, and will flush coolant, throw in some barrs leaks and see if it does the job. We'll see if the mayo comes back.

Local garage is convinced this is head gasket and that I'm looking at £700 - nervous times!

Steer clear of the local garage if they think that an Omega has a HG problem without conducting all the relevant tests (coolant sniff and compression test)

It could be:

-HBV
-Any of the plethorer of pipes around the back of the engine
-Oil cooler plate and/or thermostat housing
-Oil cooler

I would rule these out, prob in this order too, before even contemplating HG failure  :y

As Ghost Driver has stated the mayo in the filler neck is 99% due to short trips(give the car a good blast up the motorway now and again and will also help engine from becoming coked up)and nothing to worry about but if you are still worried and you only do short trips then remove the filler neck and fit cap straight to cam cover(reason for this is filler neck is cooler than cam cover thus producing condensation, thus mayo)solution used by some to great effect :y.
 As for water leak if you can't identify the problem then look at having the system pressurized to find leak :y.

I have just forked out 800.00 smackers for new Headgaskets and pulley and cam belt. This started when the car overheated with mayo in the header tank. Firstly had new oil cooler fitted and thermostat but still overheated.The top hose was pressurizing and blowing the header cap so a cylinder test was done The readings were down on the rhs head , same side as the top hose. This clinched the it so now the car is perfect , no pressurizing and temp sitting at 90 with all fans kicking in , heater working as it should . So really if the cooling system is under pressure on the top hose after doing the varous other test then I'd say h/g. Its a lot of dosh but I'm happy knowing the top half will last a while now.I'm running the car with some truck wash to help clear out any brown gunge then redoing the system with cean water and antifreeze.Dont know if this helps?
