i checked the hbv, couldnt see any signs of damage or leaks. is it a matter of taking it completly out and just replacing it ? ?

or is it a part you can clean up and re-use ?

Are the 2 rubber pipes that lead to and from the HBV to the heater matrix getting hot?

Just to the left of the HBV 2 pipes go into the bulkhead, check if they both get hot.

I had a similar problem a while ago on an MV6. I removed the hoses and flushed the heater matrix until the water ran clear.

Just to add, if the heater matrix is bunged up then the cooling system has been neglected. I would remove the radiator and fill it with Fernox (central heating cleaner) and leave it over night, then flush it with water :y

The 2 pipes to the left of the HBV, the ones that go into the bulkhead.

If you follow this guide to remove the pipes
http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1185891036

once you've got them off push a garden hose onto the top pipe and flush until the water runs clear then do the same with the bottom pipe, then reconnect the hoses, refill the cooling system and run the engine with the filler cap off, heater on hot and squeeze the radiator hoses to shift any air, oh and make sure the car is on the level ;)
