But is it the sump that's stripped or the plug?

It will be the sump stripped, they are alloy on the tractor.

The kit I have only requires a replacement sump plug because its actualy for spark plugs....I dont have the correct size helicoil kit for the standard sump plug. But thats irrelivant as I have a sump plug that will fit the helicoil.

My option was the cheap easy option. If someone will helicoil it for free, sump on, go for that.
Most boats engines pump sump oil out and do interstellar milage.
The car is worth 5-15hundred so why spend a lot when a little will make life easier!!!!

Thanks guys for all the suggestions. I am going to go with the helicoil option and get a Pela pump so I don't have to drain the b#####r again.

I am open to all suggestions ...... !!

I replaced the lower sump pan on mine with a new one from vauxhall. It wasn't expensive IIRC it was less than £60 for thesump pan, sealant/gasket & oil. Bolton council paid for mine!  ;)   ;)

If members are slow to return loaned tools, this will most likely reduce the chances of the loaning member being so willing to loan again  :'(
