MPG ???
« on: 14 February 2010, 12:48:55 »

Hey, i'm thinking of taking my Omega on a 370 mile trip. I'm going from Gloucestershire to Blackpool so it's pretty much motorway and dual-carriageway all the way.
However, although my Omega is only a 2.0, it still seems pretty thirsty on the fuel.
Does anyone know what MPG I should be expecting, or how many miles to a tank these cars do ?
Its a 1998 Omega if that makes a difference to the petrol tank size.
I haven't had it long, so it'd be nice to take it on a decent trip, but i'm now thinking that it may be cheaper to rent a small efficient diesel car.
Any thoughts ???

Kris.

long run like that should see 30-35mpg. Over the course of a tank i average 32 in mine, with 90% motorway runs with the cruise set at 80/85

In decent weather i saw 430 to a tank, all depends on how heavy your right foot is and traffic conditions

Considering the size of the car and tank, they aren't that great cruisers, are they.

All a matter of opinion, i've yet to find a car that cruises the motorway better for similar money

Should get there and back on a full tank ok :y
That's around £70+ then, depending on what you pay at the pump.
Factor in you still need to put fuel in an hire car then the rental cost, not worth renting unless your doing mega miles in it :y then how comfortable will you be compared to your miggy. ::)

They are a car that eat up motorway miles pretty easy. I have drove to southern spain from manchester with no problems, pitty I didn't have cruise control then. Got flashed a few times in France, mind you I was doing 100mph. That trip returned 30MPG dead on, but it has since had new sparks so it might be better now.

My 3.0 has done 459.2 miles to a full tank (If it had managed 459.4 I'd have made it to the garage) Thats travelling to work and back on M/Ways (bit of town driving) but getting stuck (always) in queues on the way back.

It's utter crap around town though.

I used to get 500 miles plus on my 2.0 on a long motorway run.   In fact the V6's are not far short if you are very careful with the loud pedal.

Auto makes a lot of (adverse) difference around town, but not on motorway.

So, if I take it steady-ish and sit at around 70-80mph on motorways and dual carriageways, then it could happily do around 400 miles to a tank ?
