But isn't the gasket around the coils suppose to keep the water out?

It does, from the top, but the water can sneak in from the bottom, from the underside of the plenum... you can see when you take the coil pack out - on mine, there was a big brown watery mark so I could trace the path easy.... top coil pack seals were fine  :y
