Can someone advise me on taking the steering wheel off my 02 plate Elite? I am replacing it with an Imrscher Wheel and wondered what the process is for disconecting and removing the airbag, disconecting the radio controls and getting the actual wheel off and then making sure it all goes back on straight

Any help appreciated

Centre the steering wheel first.
Disconnect the battery and leave for at least 30 mins (1st tea break )
2 x torx screws (size escapes me as I'm high on night nurse and cough nurse) slackens the airbag off it's mounts (TAKE EXTRA CARE HANDLING IT!!!!)
Slacken the nut on the centre of the shaft with the airbag lifted up out of the way. DO NOT remove it completly though!!
Wiggle and pull on the steering wheel till it pops of the spline. The reason you leave the nut on a couple of turns is so that it doesn't smack you in the face at this point. I've done it on a Morris Minor with a bakolite steering wheel and yes it hurts!
Once it's free from the splines, unclip the 4 tabs holding the cable spinner then unplug it.

Re-fitting is the reverse of removal but make sure you turrn the cables spinner end to end, counting the turns and centre it before re-fitting (I.E. if it does 6 full turns end to end, wind it 3 turns from one end and re-fit. This ensures you can get full lock both ways without pulling on the cables.)

DO NOT reconnect the battery until you have the cable spinner plugged back in or it will cause you an airbag fault that will need resetting!

Ideally disconnect the battery, but at the very least don't turn your ignition on with the airbag removed.
On the back of your wheel you'll find 2 Torx head bolts, remove these & the air bag will come away from the wheel. You'll have two cables coming on the wheel, one radio controls & t'other (yellow) for the air bag. You disconnect each of them from the back of the air back ie not from the wheel, they're both quite obvious when you see them.
Remove the nut (22mm) from the steering column, and some wheels will just come off the taper with a slight knock from behind, ideally you want a specific puller. click here but I'd made one years ago to remove my Manta's wheel

Yes, identical. Apart from the centre shape they are all the same.

Hmmm...before doing anything to the wheel....check the steering box is central and its not off set thanks to a poor job thats been done during wheel alignment

Agree with above, as its far more likely that a kerbing/pothole/fastfit tyre place has caused the issue than someone removing the wheel and putting on in wrong place
