Just them out, filements look fine and then tested them with multimeter, both filements are fine.

The lights don't come on, on either side of the car, surely both bulbs couldn't be blown,

But anyhow, I've checked, both filements in each bulb are working.

Ok, hmm, I didn't realise.  But the problem still is that the brake lights don't work, when I hit the brakes nothing lights up at the rear.

Someone almost ran into the back and then told me.

But the lights on the rear quarters do come on when you turn on the main lights.

Do you mean the brake lights on the rear quarterpanels (wings) or the rear fogs on the bootlid :question Fogs fuse is #28
It's not the fogs, and not the lights on the rear qtr which come on when you turn your lights on, it's the light that are on the boot lid that are supposed to come on when you hit the brakes, they don't come on.

As said above ... twice! Your brake lights are in the wings ie stop/tail lights ... a twin filament lamp. The lights in the boot lid are your rear fog lights! Try them, it's the push on/push off combned with your headlight switch

Your stop/tail lamps are goosed! Replace them!  :-?

you can see there are TWO filament in them. One of them is oppsed  ;)

If both bulbs work outside of the car then it`s either fuse #2 or a dodgy brake switch

fuse is fine, checked that one and many others, so it must be the brake switch.

not sure how to undo it, it damn awkward.  anybody replaced it before?

Before you go replacing the switch can you try your bulbs in another car

no high level light on mine and no power coming through when you press the brake.

Have startd to try and take the switch out, i feel like breaking the damn thing, been trying to get it out for ages now, with my neck twisted and body contorted to get under neath the steering wheel area.

pulled the cable off it but can't seem to remove the switch.

Do you have a tow hitch fitted, I had a problem with my lights (don't remember which ones) being disabled by a tiny bit of plastic in the hitch connection sticking in (or failing to return out) this small piece of plastic is there to turn lights off when towing so that you are not dazzled by reflection from the front of what you are towing. I just removed this small cylindrical piece of plastic from the hitch connection as I rarely tow. I had tried to lube it and free it to no avail, if you wish to keep it you need a new hitch connection.
