The best i have ever seen in my 2.2 petrol was 37 mpg and that was driving like a fairy on a motorway run ... i got 420 miles out of that tank .
I know the 2.2 is not the most economical  :-/

constant 30-34mpg average over course of 4 years, can't complain here, rather do that and get 38mpg in some crappy FWD hatch

Try running a BMW 540i then.  My normal commute in the Carlton 24v GSi would get about 31-32mpg being frugal, or 27-28 if givin it some.  In the BM I used to get 22mpg bring frugal and 17 if not.

I get about 28 in the MV6 auto regardless  :-?

And about 32-33 in the manual if gentle on the gas or 28-29 if heavy.

If you Elite an MV6, does that make it an MVee-leet?

Oh, and BTW, 1998 E39 540i = 4.4L V8 (285bhp/324lbft) so it's maybe not surprising it drank fuel.

I'm not checking now, but IIRC mine normally ticks over at 0.3 gals/min as did my Senator.  :-/

A/C is almost always on 'auto' so it must be when it's ON
I'll take more notice next week when I use it everyday in sunny French France and report back  ::)  ::)
