will let you know later as dont have the means to get under it and check for things at moment, + its raining quite heavy here aswel, so going to get it down to local garage shortly for hopefull diagnosis.

wellung666 - how much for the diff if it turns out to be that and how much for getting it up here to oldham?

The other component(s) that could make nasty noises and then fail with loss of drive would be the CV (constant velocity) joints.

Two in each drive shaft and three in the prop shaft. Total failure of any one of them could cause loss of drive.

Morning all,
diagnosis back,
everything else under the car is ok apart from the diff - as predicted, its goosed!!
hopefully sorted before the end of the week with help from 'welung666'.

Thanks again for all your help guys, appreciate it.
