Hello from a newbie! Read with intrest post yesterday on cam cover oil leaks. My recently aquired 2.5v6 dumps oil outta them as fast as i fill it.However before i follow the excellent on site info perhaps someone could offer more advice.  Both plastic covers on mine are badly warped-so bad last owner had siliconed both inside and outside around them to camoflage problem till too late!- and pointless refitting them. Im told this is common and best cure is to fit metal covers instead of plastic. Great news ..ive got some..off a vectra i believe. Bad news..not sure theyll fit. can anyone advise ?  The oil filler is in a different place-on top of cover where mine is offset to passenger side-and looks like it will be covered by plenum And which gasket set do i need .? I note you all say use gen vaux.....help please if you know about this mod.   cheers Richard in yorks. :o
Hi, in answer to your questions, fitting Vectra covers is one of the best mods you can do to your omega v6.

You must use vectra gaskets like thesehttp://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350315863955&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT , and fit the covers so that the filler cap is at the rear of the drivers side bank. I find the best thing to use to top the oil up rather than a funnel is a 2litre coke bottle with the bottom cut off. dont worry about the scaremongering regarding blown crankseals,  do you really believe that vauxhall fitted crap plastic covers with equally crap gaskets to prevent the crank seal blowing ?No they didnt. they did it to save money. just remember to be meticulously clean when you change the gaskets and use the correct silcone sealant in the appropiate places as per this guide http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1152564281 and remember to keep the breather system clean

That's exactly how I see it.  Why are people so loyal to their crappy plastic?  ::)

I agree, the plastic covers are a constant issue, extremeley good modification.  I guess some people are purists.  You can pick up a great deal about the V6 by having a nose on the vauxhall vectra owners club - vvoc, they seem a switched on bunch and open to new ideas, including modifications.

How many people use a torque wrench calibrator, probably none! A knackered wrench can apply torque +/- of the desired amount.  Hence over or under tightening the covers.

Not ever seen a properly caked oil vapour pipe on a breather system, could only imagine it happens with poor maintainance or short journeys, even the oil you use.  Ive always used semi, and more recently fully synth oil.

Definately an oversight with vauxhall with the covers.
