OK,new on here and want to pick peoples brains,no im not hannibal lector,
im just a normal bloke with a big head ache O woe is me.
right down to the nitty gritty,,
2002 Vauxhall Omega 2.6 v6 cd bought last year from a dodgy car dealer (but got a good trade in on a crap Audi A4) and i was quicker off the fore court than a drunk with the trotts..
great car but after a week the dreadded Emmission light started flashing and stayed on,car was drivable but a bit sluggish with a few missfires every now and then..
things done to car with no change to the emission light going out..
1:all 4 new lambda sensors = no change
2:move both rear lambda sensors to back of down pipes = no change
3:change both down pipes with good cats = no change
4:change injector rail and injectors for good ones = no change
5:fit new MAF = no change
the reason i changed these bits are because thats what the fault codes read (doing peddle test)
The next step on my list is to hit it with a big big hammer,,,i need help,,and the car dose too,,,

I think the first thing to ask, is what codes did you get?
0300 I assume and which other ones?
Plugs, coil pack and leaking cam cover gaskets would seem most likely to me.

I agree with Josh... Sounds like you need to go back to basics and stop replacing parts without a full diagnosis. I'd be checking for oil in the plug wells if you have missfire codes (030x)

Also... Is it all up to date on servicing etc?

Thing is, the peddle test will show you the codes stored that are Present, Intermittent and Not Present.  So you could have changed parts that have previously been a problem or had a slight 'hiccup'.

TBH mate your better off spending the money getting the car diagnosed properly instead of throwing money at sensors, here 'n' there.

Having said that, it's very possible that the actual cat(s) are knackered, (given the fact you have had 4 new O2 sensors), hence you cant get the light to go away, but without having the light/fault code(s) cleared you won't get to the bottom of it

I'd say highly unlikely TBH. The pre-cats might be below par but still plenty of life, plus he's tried different cats

at 1 point i had over 25 codes,but now i get between 2 and 10 codes,0130,0300,0301,0303,0305,0302,0304,0306,0150,0170,0830..are the common ones,so im hoping its something to do with the air system and the vacuum pipes.but ive no way of checking them,so thats why im asking for help.im a old skool mechanic and left that trade 10 years ago so im still running on steam
ive fitted new plugs and all the covers are dry as a bone,the coil packs look as good as new and i swapped them over with a friends car b4 he totaled it with no change

Yep... Think I'd be getting the codes cleared down and starting again, then you can check what is actually wrong. You have a whole list of missfire codes there which points towards plugs/coil packs/cam covers leaking and filling the plugwells with oil (as these are the most common causes)

Any chance you can get the codes cleared by someone with a code reader and then start again

i have serviced the car properly and it flew through the last mot in dec with the light on,the codes all clear over night with the battery disconected and it will drive fine for 50 miles or so before the light comes back on,all the things ive replaced came from my friends car so cost nothing as it was hit up the bum and in the week before the insurance company collected it i robbed all i could from it with out it looking too obviouse..

So when you re-connected the battery did you do the pedal trick?.................I bet the codes would still have been there, you need them cleared with a decent code reader.

after the battery has been disconected the codes go away after about 20 to 25 good starts and i get no codes at all,then drive 50 or so miles and it starts to coff and fart again

Not sure mate but have you checked/changed the plug leads Sounds like something and nothing but omegas i have found out like to throw up codes all over the place when you get one fault as it then goes on to affect other things.

its the 2002 2.6 and has the coil pack so no leads,ive just been looking at engine pics and noticed a few things,my car has only got 2 of the thin 4mm plastic vacuum pipes running from the back to the front,in the pics ive looked at there are 3 pipes? also i found a vacuum pipe diagram and mine are not the same as that.....the plot thickens :-/

Do the following

Pull out coil packs

1) Is there oil in the plug wells - change gaskets

2) Are they rusted through - if so change them get new from motor factors

Pull out plugs - change is necessary

Any of these can cause 030x errors

Other things to look at at MAF - genuine Bosch required

Always forget they dont have leads.....doh
