Dry or aged bearing becomes hot sooner than it's environment so if I were you I would try to find a place anywhere on (cold!) engine surface what is warmer than things around that! The whistling may come from crankshaft, alternator, waterpump, camshaft or any turning part is accelerating when you accelerate...At this time we use a screwdriver trick as we call that, putting screwdriver between your ear and the surface you want to scan. Or if you have you can use stethoscope as well but our experience is that stethoscope over sensitive to screwdriver...
