I don`t think I`ve ever seen a car yet that would take 0wg without drilling a hole in the bulkhead?

General concensus seems to be to have a look behind the pollen filter though, on the passenger side

I`ve seen it quoted as "wg" and "awg" but do not know the difference either, It could be something like American terminology, Vs old school british engineer speak?

Anyway, the smaller the number, the larger the cable.

4awg is half the size of 2awg, 8awg is half the size of 4awg - get the idea?

0Awg is the largest that is available (off the shelf) in the car audio sector, and is aroudn the thickness of your thumb. Heavier gauge cable is available, but is exceptionally expensive.

When you start getting into full on pro-competition car audio systems, heavy cables such as this is essential.

4/0 ? very thick, very heavy, doesnt bend, and you need a second mortgauge if you buy a 18m roll (that hurt!) - don`t even try running that through the car - outside only.

0awg is generally run through the car, but choose your route carefully - I would avoid running underneath the car if you can due to the associated problems in ever grounding the car on speed bumps, and corrosion resulting from the number of screws and brackets drilled into the floorpan to support the cable

Obviously check either side of any panels before taking a drill to them.

yes, but some people take car audio to the extremes

http://www.dndservices.co.uk/htmls/flash_htmls/projects/project_hrv.htm

And to fully understand how severe these systems are, check out the third picture down on the left of this link. You will see a crumpled speaker. That speaker has a metal cone, and the terminals came loose whilst testing it. the sheer pressure inside the car from the others caused it to buckle.

Not at all - you are the perfect potential customer for this.

if you are old enough to be listening to them, then you are old enough for your hearing to be deteriorating due to your age -

and therefore, you need a much louder stereo to compensate for that

Here you go:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_wire_gauge

0AWG = 53.5 mm2  :o

Ideal if you want a couple of electric showers in the back of your car.  ;)

Thats not the diameter, lol, you could run a machine shop with something that big, its more like 9mm with the insulation.
If you don't mind running it down the drivers side there is a large plastic grommet that is blank, or there is on the facelift, you can easily drill a hole it that and run it inside the car, you will need more than 5 metres though

Er . . No, I think you may be confusing this with the normal 8awg cable that people fit for conventional car amplifiers - The 0awg we have here with insulation is around 23mm diameter !!
