live and learn. I have the opposite issue.. boot button works fine, remote fob button doesn't do anything - but then I think thats the button on the remote fubar'd. Painful when returning to the car with shopping to have to open car etc etc so looking to sort that

The switch inside the car (on the facelift model anyway) operates straight away.  It does NOT work with the ignition on or even with the key still in.  I was once informed by someone that pressing and holding the switch in for 4 seconds allows the boot to be opened, even with the ignition on - but this is incorrect

depends on the age of the car..

early ones operate straight away, providing no key inserted.
newer ones a long press opens at any time.

unless someone has played with the wiring to amend things  :y

Earlier facelifts:
Ign out, press button, instantly opens

Later facelifts:
Press and hold for 3s, irrespective of key...
