And what about when Ovaltine was more than just a powder.
Pinching spoonfuls of condensed milk from the tin in the pantry and hoping it wouldn't be noticed.
Throwing home made 'arrows' 100yds. with the aid of a string sling.
Flying miniature box kites made from balsa wood and tissue paper.
Sitting for hours on the kerb watching ants rescue eggs from the nests you had disturbed with your foot.
Watching the 'Matthews FA Cup Final on a 9" B&W TV with a magnifying screen in front.

You have gone back way to far for me now!

I can remember the tracing paper toilet roll at school which seemed to rely on the principle of smeering it thin enough so as it wasn't noticeable rather than actualy removing it!

 ;D
I'm not sure we had toilets at my school.  :D

Rod operated brakes on my 1932 8HP Ford Popular. (Black, believe it or not).
Getting brake shoes relined, or doing it yourself.
And fitting and changing your own tyres.
Repairing dents and rot with 'Plaster of Paris' instead of proprietary filler. Bloody well worked for a while, too.
God, I'm getting old.

Lovely stuff, and the reason I never went at school (well probably once, the I learned!)  Must have been compulsory on our day!

Strangely my Grandad used it till the day he died!

The summers were always six months long and the sun shined every day. Making a den in the local woods and staying there all weekend with a couple of mates. Going out to play could last for hours or until it was getting dark. If it snowed down here in Cornwall the school closed so we could enjoy it. Having enough pocket money to buy a half pound of sweets and not just a quarter - but what to have. The local sweet shop had every sweet in the world in big jars and there was nothing better than hearing them clanking into the metal dish of the scales. KFC was a treat and it tasted like nothing on earth - still true but for different reasons lol

Only it was called "Kentucky Fried Chicken" back then.

This thread can’t be good for me reliving all the memories, I've just spent £20 buying 3kg of toffee crumble

I always thought that Izal was invented so that you could use
both sides of it and save money.  :)

Ok. I'll get my coat.
