ECU Limp Home mode
« on: 21 November 2011, 16:01:24 »

Occasionally the car goes to Limp Home mode and a warning light which looks like a car with a spanner comes on. If I turn off the engine this will normally clear the fault (as per the handbook). The fault usually comes on after a long drive.
Having looked round the forum I saw a post which said that a failing knock sensor could be the problem.
Can anyone help?
The car is 3.2 Elite 2003 model.

Do the "pedal trick" and post up the codes

0420 catalytic converter system, bank 1 - efficiency below threshold. Problem cause: Catalytic converter, wiring, lambda sensor(after cat). Hope this helps.

Good job you didn't waste money on that knock sensor - another lesson in not changing stuff on a hunch ;)

0420 (and 0430) plague all 3.2 engines.  Ultimately, the solution is to move the rear lamdas behind the main cat. Costs about £15 and a couple of beers to your welder mate ;)

Although this code should not give any form of limp, it just brings light on...
