Occasionally the car goes to Limp Home mode and a warning light which looks like a car with a spanner comes on. If I turn off the engine this will normally clear the fault (as per the handbook). The fault usually comes on after a long drive.
Having looked round the forum I saw a post which said that a failing knock sensor could be the problem.
Can anyone help?
The car is 3.2 Elite 2003 model.

0420 catalytic converter system, bank 1 - efficiency below threshold. Problem cause: Catalytic converter, wiring, lambda sensor(after cat). Hope this helps.

Good job you didn't waste money on that knock sensor - another lesson in not changing stuff on a hunch

0420 (and 0430) plague all 3.2 engines.  Ultimately, the solution is to move the rear lamdas behind the main cat. Costs about £15 and a couple of beers to your welder mate
