Title: Water pump recommendation?
Post by: jonny2112 on 08 April 2012, 20:36:09
Just wondering, if I end up changing this myself, is there a brand or option favoured amongst those in the know?
Vx is around £70 on TC I think.

TIA  :y

As with most things mate I think GM is the way forward...especially with parts like this where there's a whole loada hassel getting to them.

Just wondering why some are advertised as for specifically 2.5, 3.2. Thats the bay though, but as some won't post to NI, and others charge extorionate rates, I'll be getting it elsewhere anyway!

Just a note from the cambelt DVD.... there are two waterpumps... one is marked ''01'' I think and the other I can't remember. Mark specifically says though that they're not interchangable so make sure you get the correct one :)

Hmmm thinking about it I think you're right... I think it's the backing plate for the idlers I'm thinking of.

Sorry to confuse  :y

Just changed my pattern water pump (with metal impeller) after only 12,000 miles, leaking and noisy bearings.  Changed for GM model, hopefully will last a little longer!

There are a couple of very generous and worthy members who could and would do this for me. One of them still might, even at one of the meets if I can make it. As always cost is a factor and as I live in NI, I have to cross the dearest stretch of water known to man! Was maybe, just maybe, considering having a go myself.
Ultimately I'll probably end up begging one of the experts though  :-X

Not quite... The Isle of Wight ferry is the most expensive (per mile) in the country, but I know what you mean :y

Sounds about right for a pattern cambelt kit. I use the contitech kits from buypartsby.

GM V6 cambelt is about £130 on TC, thus I use quality pattern.

That was from buypartsby but there was no manufacturer listed, I don't think.

I've bought a few V6 cam belt kits from buypartsby - they have always supplied Contitech.

Contitech, along with gates, were oem suppliers of these parts to Vx.

HTH

(£60 much better than ~£100 Vx TC price - also noted the Contitech belts in the kits I bought were all marked GM)
