Over 500 quid retail for that phone as stand alone. Both me and the wife have one. I can't complain it's been faultless. Even the Sat Nav works well.

Ok, thanks all, I'll pass if 250 is too much, dont want to insult him on price as he's a friend, wish him luck in selling.

Thanks Chris.

You can probably get one on contract for 25 a month (maybe less) so 250 is 10 months contract payment!

Im on a 12 month rolling business contract with Vodafone, I dont get any new phone entitlement due to the fact Im maxed out on Airtime time discount, I only pay 7.50 plus Vat per month for my 2 numbers. Suppose thats the price you pay for being with them for 22 years, mind you I do get pretty much everything thrown in for that.

Chris.
They were originally released in February 2011 and (with the exception of the Galaxy Note) they still hold top spot for hardware specs & performance.
Retail price for a SIM free handset is still £450, so £250 is a reasonable price.
It may well be locked to T-Mobile, but it's a piece of piss to flash it with a SIM free ROM.

ICS - Ice Cream Sandwich update, with 3.x Google tried to do two different versions of Android. One for tablet, one for phones. But they messed up, ICS is designed to go back to one version for all devices. Hence it's called Ice Cream Sandwich, rather than just Ice Cream.

All depends on whether your handset is "service provider" branded or not as to when you get the update, Voda were the last in getting  their arse in to gear where the ICS update was concerned.

AFAIK, the original Galxy S will not be seeing ICS at any time whatsoever.
There are unofficial ICS ROM's available that you can flash, but please remember that they are not official so if you find a bug then you are on your own in resolving it.

Up until 2 years ago my attitude was a phone is made for making & receiving calls ONLY.
I couldn't be arsed with SMS (and still can't), but since having a "smartphone" I just kind of "got the bug" and have sat here since thinking of different ways to improve on what is already available (eg, hardware based call recording, removing the SMS limit of 10 recipients, etc).

I doubt very much I would have progressed as far as I have if I had been working in my normal profession, but it gives me something to do while sat on my arse having poison infused in to me on a twice weekly basis.

Trouble is, I didn't get creamed up when I was young. A mobile phone was, errr, a phone that was mobile. Mobile in the loose sense, for those that remember the Ruby TACS based phone. My next was the NEC ETACS based one, which I kept for ages until GSM became usable, when I got the excellent 2110 "brain fryer"

True, I used to do similar in the WinMo area, not just in the ROMs, but application programming as well...  ...although pre WinMo 5, the fundamental flaw of battery dying wiping all data made it a poor choice...  ...but the only choice.

You ain't wrong there, worked just about anywhere at the expense of getting cancer (or any other RF related disease).
Thinking about it, given the way we work these days I'm thinking maybe I can find a solicitor to sue Orange for my current predicament  ;D

Yeah, true.  Done my stint messing with others, mostly Windows, and a brief fling with Android, but the gayPhone just does what it is supposed to. After frustrations with other OS's, I'm happy to be gay. Except crApple voice dialling is abysmal.

What about the old motorola brick with the rubber duck aeriel right next to your ear hole whenever you were using it.
We used one of those when I was on the caravan shifting job. Cost my gaffer over a grand when he bought it.

Depends on your network if it's auto pushed down, or you have to connect up the cable and check for updates

It's down to your carrier what updates get pushed down to your phone unless you fancy using a non standard rom.
I'm sure Martian will be able to advise further about that.

This was the second brick I had - the first was even bigger. ;D

The bills were as large as the briefcase I had to use to carry the buggers about so getting the Motorola Startac (?) flip was luxury itself - altough the bills remained as stellar as the name of the handset. ;D ;D

Rumour has it the S3 is only going to be an incremental update in pretty much the same way the iPhone 4S was to the iPhone 4.
