Title: Ebay. I've been con'd
Post by: doz on 26 April 2012, 13:26:07
Shame to say it but in over 10 years of being a member I've finally been ripped off to the tune of 108 quid. I raised the issue with Ebay last week and the seller has until tomorrow to respond. If he doesn't respond does anybody know what happens next? I paid via Paypal and I have the protection but I'm unsure if I get the full amount back. If I don't I will pursue it through the small claims courts. I've done that before and where it is a balls ache it's easily doable. I'd rather the item was just posted out to me still but I can't see that happening. Who knows there maybe a genuine reason why he's not contacted me but at the end of the day I have to look after my own interests. Sigh, shame really guy said he was a member on here as well and even phoned me to tell me when he was going to post it etc.

Until it's resolved I'd rather not start naming people. However i will make it all crystal clear once it's sorted out. More interested in what happens next with Ebay and Paypal.

I have the number. Have sent Text messages and tried to phone. It's been switched off when I've tried phoning and no replies to texts. I've also sent e mails via Ebay. Once again no response.

Quoted from the bay`s rules
I opened a case. What happens now?
Once you open a case, we'll ask the seller to respond to you within 8 days. If the seller doesn't respond, or if the seller responds but you still can't work things out after the 8 day period, go to the Resolution Centre to escalate the case to Customer Support.

Might be worth confirming with the admins if that number matches a particular member here  :y

Very easy, that member was here for a considerable time, many people have his number  ;)

Not applicable here. He did not "submit" his number when signing up to a service and tick that box of "Don't pass my details around?"

Is it worth confirming yes or know if we know that number?

If admins unwilling to help, PM Amigo, ask him if he recognises the number that called you.

If he does not, then can move on. If he does, old can of worms opened.

Matters not. I would regard contact details I received from another forum member via any means as confidential unless specifically asked to make it available in public. I know the rest of the admin team would apply the same principle.

I'd hope anyone else would treat my contact details similarly.

Anyway.. Ebay have procedures in place to resolve such issues, and they are dealing with it.

But is that not just a personal rule of it confidential? Not saying I would pass anyones detail out at will, but if it is the case of same member ripping people off, perhaps we need a warning about his ebayID in the for sale section?

We have banned him, but if he is stating he is still a member here to try and add credibility to his adverts/sales, puts a negative image of OOF.  :(

Guys.  don't want anybody to do anything other than tell me what happens with Ebay. I've just been contacted by Ebay. The case has just been been past to customer support to review. I now have to wait 48 hrs. I was asking what happens. I guess I'm just about to find out.  :(

Wow!!! That was quick. I've just been issued with a refund for the full amount!!! Only info I was given was the seller couldn't provide any form of postal tracking so I get all my funds back.  :) :) So now I've all I got to do is find the part again.

I do have the guys E-mail name. However I won't disclose it her without consent from "the management"

Ebay are normally quick, and if the seller cannot prove posting, usually a full reversal is done...  ...assuming the buyer doesn't make a habit of it ;)

Don't sweat it. If you've paid via PayPal, you're covered.  :y
By using the eBay internal message service there will be a record that you've made every attempt to resolve the issue.

Edit: Ah, just noticed it's been sorted.  ::) :y

I have a similar problem
Bid for a camera
Paid 33 quid via paypal
It arrived about 5 days late and won't work
Have sent 2 messages to the seller
Had one reply in the past 10 days
Anyhow sent a final appeal to the seller for a response at Ebays request
As no reply in 7 days it's in the hands of Ebay's disputes team
Due to hear of their decision in the next day or so
Will let you know the outcome

Often miss quoted, when an appropriate request is made, for information, however that is not the case here and the admins could not give out a phone number to another member without consent, however this information could, for example, be given to the Police.... :)

So I take it they have taken the money back? I bloody hope so, after all he'd be getting away with theft

I think you are making an early assumption here Tunnie, you could well be barking up the wrong tree, you have no evidence to suggest it is that particular ex member...... ::) ::)

i need to point out that the above statement is untrue, paypal will take your money for any item but only cover certain catorgories
you have to read the small print
eg they do not cover car payments

Just been refunded in full by seller includes postage costs!!
Obviously at the request of Ebay
Now what do I do with the duff camera?
I don't have a return address
So think I should once more try and make contact with him

A couple of times, where I have had similar issues on Ebay, I have either been asked by seller to dispose of faulty goods, and in the case of incorrect items being supplied, have been told to keep the incorrect parts as goodwill gesture by seller as well as the subsequently supplied correct item. :y

I found it odd that the seller did not give their name on OOF, would that not make sense? Drop me a PM on OOF if you have issues, my username is bla....

Not often people get ripped off on OOF, lack of postage was something a particular member was fond of  ;)

Strong hunch it was him, trying to help out by confirming few details.  ;)
