Title: jacking points

is there any pics here on jacking/axle stand points

i have trolley jack
2 axle stands
2 ramps

today  i jacked up on wishbone and axle about  1 foot down where side bits come off skirt

i hated getting under car

need to do auto box fluid and h/b cable wanna get car well up but safe

Best place to support the weight of the car is on the triangular plates just in front of the rear wheels and on the front subframe as in the picture supplied.

Remember an Omega is a big heavy car so my advise is a good quality 3 ton jack with a large saddle and axle stands with a 3 ton loading aswell.

can we not put axle stands on back axle

I sometimes put the stand or jack on the rear leg, as when you jack the triangular plate covering the donut bush it's awkward getting a stand in

Never jack on the dif, it will separate the dif to chassis bushes.

Wish someone would tell the dickhead mot tester at my local stealer >:( couldn't get thr car high enough to spin the rear wheels so he tried lifting the diff and couldn't understand why the jack was going up and the car wasn't ::).  The workshop foreman came over and gave him a right blokking before showing him how he should've done it ::)

It only went in there for mots, I only use them for parts now...

Rear on stands is a bit of a fiddle. Jack point is the centre bolt in the triangular plate for donut bush under rear door.

BUT.... the best place for the stand is the reinforced area by the exhaust hangers( bear in mind the 4pot has an exhaust box missing) the problem there is some jack and stand combinations mean, the jack will be in the way of the stand using those two areas. So some jiggling may be required with the jack position to get the stand in the right place.
 Stand on sub frame arm is a bit dodgy as it can slide off as the saddle doesn't really fit. Sub frames aren't really suitable anyway though.

Definitely Chris. i find the best angle for the jack is straight looking at the car's doors.... just about enough room to get the stand in.... not much though

Bigger the jack, more awkward it is IME.

Tbh, for ATF change, I bung the parts and £50 to my local auto box mech and he does it on a lift. Very messy job.

gave up on idea of doing atf myself gonna get a well known mechanic on here to do it for me

Imho that jack is pretty crap and if you really want to be able to lift a car like an Omega to a decent working height,safely,I would opt for a 3 tonne with a longer chassis .

That in the link is almost certainly a 2 tonne and would not be up to lifting the car heigh enough to get those stands under it.

Has anybody got a good clear picture of where to put the axle stand when you have jacked up the back end up on a estate.I have looked at a few pics on hear but cannot really.

I personally use a 3 ton Sealey Yankie Jack as I find the saddle plate is a lot larger and gives you more flexibility when positioning it,also being a larger saddle the load is spread better.

The one in the link is probably fine at that price but if you intend using it quite regularly I would invest a bit more and get something more substantial in build quality.Just mho though  ;D
