Been changing the Estate SL shocks on MotherT's Elite today, tad different from Saloon I found. (i've taken some pictures to add to the guide)
I've been wondering if GM have made changes to the mounting & shock? First off removing the old one was a b@starrrrd, they were rusted in solid. Breaker bar + foot + tons of swearing got them off, just.
So removing the old shock, looked like this:

Now that metal part above the washer on the other shock, fell straight off. This required hammer + screwdrive + more swearing to get off.
Now with the saloon, I don't remember a metal washer on the outside of the car?
Way I refitted was this:

Now the old big fat washer, had metal internals. The new ones (GM sourced) were plastic inside.
I'm sure I asked for Estate shocks, dealer I use always excellent. Have I accidently got saloon shocks? (part number i have is 72119085) Is GM cutting costs again with parts? (plastic not metal)
All refitted everything appears ok. I just caught the SL pump fire up briefly, can tech2 test/activate SL pump?
Finally, removing old shock, I found glue in the pipework of the nearside one. Looks like someone on purpose before our ownership blocked it up ??? - Air pipe was on & clipped in place. Although no air escaped when removed on either shock.
I have heard the SL pump activate before, wondering what affect that would have had :-\

Both shocks are new, looking at the weather I cannot be bothered now, but will try that tomorrow :y

Correct part number for TC estate SL shocks. :y

Will test, so that suggests the mounts/rubbers have been under the cost cutting GM knife again :(

Did you remove the metal sleeve on the top of the old shocks and put them on the new ones.
When I replaced mine about 12 months ago, as they were not included with the shock absorbers, I had to remove the old ones which were well rusted on and were a right !**$%^**( !^&***)(&*% ***^%**() to remove. ::) ::) ::)

Yes these were too & no I did not re-fit them. D'oh. Thing is on the offside one, there was no trace of it :-\

You should be able to sort that by taking the top apart, so you don't have the hassle of removing them from the bottom. I smeared the top and bottom joints with Copper Ease so if I need to take them off in the future, hopefully it will be a bit easier. :y
Looking at the size of the plastic hole on the top rubber, the top of the shock absorber will float around without the sleeve on. :o :o :o
I don't know how this will affect the cars handling or the wear implications of the plastic moving against the sharpish edges of the top thread. :(

They may have changed the design since I did mine. Might be worth asking Andy C as, as far as I'm aware, they update the spares exploded diagrams as parts are modified.
I looked through the pictures I took while doing the job and unfortunately, I didn't take any of the new one with the top parts on before reassembly. :-\

I appear to be missing 6. The spacer :-\
Never found this on the saloon, thinking about it that metal spacer was inside old rubber washer. But these new ones appeared to have a built in plastic spacer :-\

Although thinking about it some more, it did still move a bit. Wonder what affect not having that will do :-\

The air line from the compressor is a single pipe which is them T'd into two, one for each side. So if you damage the piping anywhere along the length, it will affect both rear shockers.
Re the spacer tube. IIRC the washers need this tube to tighten up against, otherwise you'll just be squashing the rubber bush

Hummm crap! Means I need to disconnect it from above I guess, pull it down and refit that top stuff.

Yes, it's easy enough, I lost the lower washer on mine somehow, and replaced (thanks James :y) it leaving the lower bolt still in place.

Had a dig in the garage, found both spacers. Oddly, one is rusty as hell. The other is clean, and stuck fast in the washer. Guessing I'll cut it off....

Just trying the loose one in the garage its tight over old shock, thinking a soak in carb clearner. Not sure how else to clean up the inside, guess bit of grease help it slip on. (ooooo err :o)

As Shackeng says, a quick going over with a file or bit of emery cloth & fit them. :y

Got files, not sure have one slim enough to go inside though, think I'll tear off some sandpaper and a screwdriver, should clean it up enough :)
