Title: Coolant transfer pipe
Post by: Manual Elite V6 on 24 September 2012, 19:56:12
I'm in the process of changing my o/s exhaust manifold gasket and when I removed the coolant transfer pipe I couldn't see the o-ring and it hasn't dropped down, there looks to be one inside the pipe but it doesn't fell like there is one there, my question is does the o-ring sit inside a groove in the pipe or is it just placed there?

Thanks

I thought there were two O rings in the transfer pipe  :-\ :-\ Anyhow if you've got that far, replace them ..... they go hard with age.

I suspect the OP is referring to the pipe which goes around the o/s of the engine to the rear of the block rather than the one from the stat.

That is correct, I am replacing the o-ring, will have it tomorrow, however when removing the pipe I did not see or feel it fall and cannot see it under the car anywhere, there looks to be a seal recessed in the pipe but it just feels solid, I just need to know it this is the seal before I try hooking it out.

Thanks.

Yes, the "o" ring is in a slot on the pipe. When refitting with a new "o" ring use a smear of gasket cement or grease to hold it in place, as they can easily move while re-fitting and doing up the pipe's easy to get to bar-steward bolts.  :-[ :-X

As stated 1 "0" ring seal sits into the recess on the coolant transfer pipe...its a VX part only and also wise getting the bridge dowty washers there too.

As Rod says. I was that man, there's nothing worse than getting it all back together to hear the tinkle tinkle of running water when your refilling ::)

I use cam cover sealant whenever I do them now :y

Ah yes, I seem to recall that at the Telford cambelt meeting.

Didn't we do a fast fix the next morning?

Don't think I could have worked the day after the Saturday night ::)

Fresh air in the premises was in short supply, for a start, if memory serves. ;D

We really ought to organise another meet with the added comedy backdrop of wedding day inbred family feuds, punch ups, pint glasses being chucked and a clueless Police presence. Not to mention Hotel21's "under the table" malt-based product distribution as an alternative to the lager. :y
