The DTi's door cards are looking a little tatty around the handle / mirror / window controls area. Has anyone succesfully refurbished these?
-
I've been looking for an answer my self Andy. As of yet.... Zip, but if I find anything I'll let you know & visa versa if you please :y

There are some brilliant "Speciality paints" around these days, I have seen some Suede effect in aerosols, plus Black Velvet look ones. They do look impressive, although I have never tried them myself. Your other option is to get some replacements from a breaker on here.

Seen a few possibles.
Hotel21 has rubbed his drivers door card rubber finish down, doesn't look too bad actually.
Plasti dip. A rubberised paint of sorts.
And a carbon fibre looking vinal stick on sheet that looked very good on the door pocket. Presume it comes on other flavours than carbon finpbre. :-\
...all IMO, of course.
But the short answer is no, tbh.
I wonder if some sort of wrap would do. :-\ mmmnah maybe not. :(

I have rubbed down all four door pockets and switch surrounds and the black gear lever surround with great success..used 1200 wet and dry and then G3 compound, took me blinking ages and ages but the end result is realy great and nice and clean and shiny. :y

Tried to put pics on here before but just cant get the hang of it.....could take some and email them to you... :y

Either use a very slow celly thinner like Gun Cleaner or Pre-Paint to get it off without eating into the plastic or rub off the stuff and polish it shiny again.
I have used the first method and it is the easiest! Not got the car now so can't take any pics.
Just take plenty of time and care............

Got some spare doorcards here.Might just have a play when I get time. That looks to be a huge improvement over the usual part matt/part shiny look. :y
-
I have to say I am very taken with that idea now i've seen the result! Thanks to all concerned :y
-
don't get knacklered with sanding it down just get a multi tool (eg a Dremel but much cheaper versions are available) with felt pads/polishing wheel and some Brasso. Should take a few minutes. Same applies for polishing plastic headlight covers.
-
Thanks pete for putting pics on for me....i did them by hand as there are two coats of plastic stuff on them and i did not want to take the chance of using power tools in case the plastic got burnt..must say they do make my car look far better....the suggestion of doing them by a dremil may be a lot easier and i am all for making life easier.....let me know the results if anyone does them that way,,,,thanks again pete. :y

Ooh, I think that's going to be getting done. Looks much better than the scuffed rubber effect.
