Resurfacing door card handles (the rubber coating)
« on: 30 September 2012, 17:17:09 »

The DTi's door cards are looking a little tatty around the handle / mirror / window controls area. Has anyone succesfully refurbished these?

There are some brilliant "Speciality paints" around these days, I have seen some Suede effect in aerosols, plus Black Velvet look ones. They do look impressive, although I have never tried them myself. Your other option is to get some replacements from a breaker on here.

Seen a few possibles.
Hotel21 has rubbed his drivers door card rubber finish down, doesn't look too bad actually.
Plasti dip. A rubberised paint of sorts.
And a carbon fibre looking vinal stick on sheet that looked very good on the door pocket. Presume it comes on other flavours than carbon finpbre. :-\

...all IMO, of course.

But the short answer is no, tbh.

I wonder if some sort of wrap would do. :-\ mmmnah maybe not. :(

Either use a very slow celly thinner like Gun Cleaner or Pre-Paint to get it off without eating into the plastic or rub off the stuff and polish it shiny again.
I have used the first method and it is the easiest! Not got the car now so can't take any pics.
Just take plenty of time and care............

Got some spare doorcards here.Might just have a play when I get time. That looks to be a huge improvement over the usual part matt/part shiny look. :y
