One reason I keep holding onto mine, even though I have the 3.2.

Look forward to see how you get on, as in the near future MotherT will probably need a new Estate.

Like all new cars, it has lane changing indicators. All but BMW and Audi - the orange bulbs are extra...

I wasn't at all keen on these lane change indicators when I first got our Vectra C.  However, after a while they become very intuitive and second nature...  Now I miss them when I get back in the Omega...  ::)

I just lightly press it for maybe a second or 2 when changing lanes, never felt the need for any more than that  :-\

Whilst I was pleasantly surprised with the Insignia, taking it down to SW France - not far from Andorra - and back, there is no way I could say it was as good/comfortable/relaxing ride as my MV6, that I have done similar trips in.  In fact, I found the Insignia dull and boring, but economical, effortless and incident free (other than running out of brakes).

The stupid electronic handbrake *REALLY* was getting on my tits, though. *REALLY* get on them.

Who's he?  ::) Isn't it actually a parking or emergency brake?
Anyway, hill starts using a 'hand brake' are becoming a thing of the past (other than for your test - I'm sure it'll catch up eventually) when cars have 'hill assist' & a 'hold' function on the foot brake. With each of these, there's no need to use anything other than the pedals at your feet and no need for another hand/parking/emergency brake.  :y

Anyway, releasing the parking brake with your hand while doing a hill start is ludicrous tbh.Its a hateful contraption imo. :)

 .....

SWMBO's Smart has hill assist. 0.7 secs after taking your foot from the brake pedal the brakes actually release, so you have 0.7 secs to get your right foot from the brake to the throttle without the car rolling back. (using 2 feet can confuse the system)
'Hold' (on a Merc) is when you push the brake pedal that bit harder when you've stopped, the pedal stays there until you touch the throttle. It means you can do a hill start in a manual without use of a hand/parking brake.

Mercedes Hold mustn't work like that because the foot brake stays depressed even with your foot removed till you accelerate.

Quite like the electronic hand brake, when sat in traffic with it applied, drive in neutral, you just flick it into drive, press the accelerator, and away you go.

Cuts out an operation.

And eats rear pads. And its bound to be unreliable, as as far as I can work out, the Insignia implementation relies on stalling the electric motors (but doesn't need recalibration after a pad change), unlike, for example, the VAG implementation, which doesn't rely on stalling motors, but does require dealer level diagnostics to recalibrte after pad change.

Dunno about the VX version but on VAG I think the car needs a chat with the diagnostic machine to reset the brake/hub assemblies before attempting a stripdown.  Otherwise it is a very pricy repair as the whole setup will then resmble an explosion in a clock factory!   :o

Did a 30 mile round trip this morning, lots of heavy traffic, bits of open road, never managed to exceed more than 60mph (traffic conditions), averaged 38.7 mpg :y

Same trip in the Omega would have probably achieved around 22/23 mpg.

You sure that you ain't confusing fuel consumption with tyre pressures, Baz?
