....

The stupid electronic handbrake *REALLY* was getting on my tits, though. *REALLY* get on them.

I didn't think they all had them ......  :-\ :-\

Some don't like Mercedes foot operated parking/emergency/hand brake ........  :-\ just different from the norm.  ;)

I hated the bloody thing. I presume their manual cars have a traditional arrangement ?  :-\

I doubt it .......  :-\  :-\

Why did you 'hate' it? You just apply the brake with your foot rather than your hand, never seen a problem with it (maybe cos I rarely use it  ;))

It just got on my tits.Im a creature of habit. God named it a handbrake for good reason. ;D
How would you manage a hill start with that contraption in a manual car ? you would need 3 legs. :D

Who's he?  ::) Isn't it actually a parking or emergency brake?
Anyway, hill starts using a 'hand brake' are becoming a thing of the past (other than for your test - I'm sure it'll catch up eventually) when cars have 'hill assist' & a 'hold' function on the foot brake. With each of these, there's no need to use anything other than the pedals at your feet and no need for another hand/parking/emergency brake.  :y

Just means engaging neutral to get a spare foot to apply the bloody thing,I'm all for them with auto's but don't like them on manuals

Good point! Well presented!  :y :y :y I suppose that's where hill assist or hold will come in handy. ;)

Hill assist - never eard of it. Whatever next ffs  ::)
Anyway, releasing the parking brake with your hand while doing a hill start is ludicrous tbh.Its a hateful contraption imo. :)

 .....

SWMBO's Smart has hill assist. 0.7 secs after taking your foot from the brake pedal the brakes actually release, so you have 0.7 secs to get your right foot from the brake to the throttle without the car rolling back. (using 2 feet can confuse the system)
'Hold' (on a Merc) is when you push the brake pedal that bit harder when you've stopped, the pedal stays there until you touch the throttle. It means you can do a hill start in a manual without use of a hand/parking brake.

I had it on the Citroen, electric parking brake really, only if you did not switch it off it went off automatically when you drove off........not really necessary on an Auto though.... :) :)

Mercedes Hold mustn't work like that because the foot brake stays depressed even with your foot removed till you accelerate.

MB's 'Hold' is a separate thing from the handbrake, as all MB's use the foot operated parking brake.  :-\
