Title: Police Commissioner Elections
Post by: Rods2 on 15 November 2012, 17:31:46
Don't forget to vote folks.

If you are a Eurosceptic like me, then now might be a good time to send a message to the main parties by voting tactically and putting your X on the UKIP candidate.

Well when I voted this morning there was no one else there, apart from very bored looking officials! ::) ::) ::)

I reckon the turnout will be the lowest ever know in an election. ;)

The candidate have hardly pushed their cause, there's been virtually no information in the media about who wants what. And what's their political persuasion got to do with it?  ???

There was supposed to be a leaflet delivered to every home but I know of dozens of people that haven't received it' me included.

Firstly the system has been rigged for the big parties with a 5000 deposit and no free delivery election address- unless you are on the internet

November elections are absurd as people will not open up in the evenings

The job role is a nonsense with MP's and Judges setting the law and the Chief Constable runs the police operations

How one person can represent the whole county of five boroughs is absurd

For the first time since I was able to vote I wrote on my postal ballot paper this is a disgraceful waste of 75 millions pounds electing a non-job which should have been spent of police officers

As for the candidates not one of them inspires confidence in my area

A waste of time and money when we are supposed to be saving costs, not one candidate can even make clear what they would do in this 80,000 to 100,000 pounds a year non-job

The only candidate that bothered here was a Mr Nick King. A very unfortunate name for someone running as a police commissioner, but true.

I really cannot see the point of voting because the probablity is that nothing will change and it will, in certain areas that are not the pet project of the elected one, the situation and crimes worsen drastically. It is simply yet another high position and someone will fill it, bag the perks (because it will be riddled with them) then become a 'god' that will do as he or she wants and sod the hopes and wishes of those who elected them.
Maybe another quango will be the correct term for it?
Perhaps if the punishments really did work with long mandatory prison  terms without parole or early release and prison was really prison without luxuries other than a library and not a hotel of learning with Sky tv and games consoles then it would not be a needed role because crime would be almost non-existent? How's about natural life for repeat offenders too?
Oh if only.........they would indeed be happy days for all who stick within the law ::)

The whole exercise is a colossal waste of time and tax payers money IMO!  >:(

Whatever happened to the 'bonfire of the quangos' ?  The ongoing costs of these commissioners will be massive. If Prezza gets elected for example can you imagine him being content with a desk in the corner? No, there will be grand offices, with lots of staff, advisors, assistants, researchers, secretaries etc  >:(

The whole idea should have been scrapped long ago!  >:(

Just been watching the news.....really low turnout.
In fact, one polling ststion never had any votes cast ;D

What a total waste of tax payers money >:(

It should never be political....police should be totally independant, at that means starting at the top !!!!!!! >:(

Cold November day!!!!...........so why not wait till next summer >:(
Public don't know this, public don't know that.........what do THEY know what the public knows.
Evidently, many spoilt ballot papers, with point of view written on, not a cross ;D

What terbert said - politics and the police shouldn't go toghether.

I was planning on voting, but kept forgetting and then it was too late - the same for many from the turnout figures.

Yep, I had to laugh at the guy on the radio this morning blaming the high percentage of spoilt papers on the fact that the voting system used was not "first past the post" and traditionally had a higher percentage of spoilt papers because us plebs "didn't understand" it.  >:(

I think if someone scrawls words to the effect of "why are you wasting money on this pointless exercise while also cutting numbers of coppers?" on their ballot paper, it's unlikely that a misunderstanding of the voting system is the problem. Condescending ******. >:(

To be honest, Kevin, I never knew it was not 'first past the post'. Not that it made any difference to me ;D ;D

I never voted, and before its said, that I can't moan at the results, do you think it would make any difference!!!!!

It should have been a yes/no vote on change first!!!!!!

And as a postscript, I suppose us taxpayers will be funding the vote counters wages, as they are sent home, having no votes to count !!!!

Yes, it has all gone as expected; a as a damp squid! ::) ::)

Some of you may know I am a Conservative Socialist, and I must admit this is one terrible failure and misjudgment by the Coalition.  There was far better things that should be attended to instead of doing something that is a massive waste of money, that we are told in other areas has to be saved, that will achieve nothing.

Utter nonsense!! >:( >:(
Title: Re: Police Commissioner Elections
Post by: Rods2 on 16 November 2012, 13:25:45
Unfortunately, I think is was an attempt to stem where to become a Police Commissioner under the last Government you had to ideally be from an ethnic or gender minority or at the very minimum be happy to promote their PC liberal agenda.

Sadly, the police were always interdependent like the civil service until the damage done by the last government where they didn't just blur the lines, but drove an army of PC liberal appointees through it.

This is one of the disadvantages of have an unwritten UK constitution, but it will not matter soon as from 2014 onwards when the Lisbon treaty and Constitution comes into full effect we will be ruled by this with a massive increase in the areas that the EU have total control of, so Parliament will be little more a rubber stamping shop, until it is abolished as part of the Federated States of Europe treaty of 2014-15, when it will be Brussels and regional councils based upon the EU NUTS 1 regions.

Labour tried to set up these regional councils, but were mainly defeated in local referendums for them. So next time don't expect to get a vote as it will be imposed as part of the FSE treaty. Then it is job done, the UK will cease to exist as a country.

Vote UKIP.

One thing to remember when quoting statistics (other than usual warnings on any use of statistics in an argument !  :) )  is that the "turnout" figures being given on the official sites does NOT include spoiled ballots....

Given the supposedly large numbers of people who have stated to the press that they spoiled their ballot in protest .. then the actual number of folks voting may be considerably higher than votes counted ...  :)

But that would involve me actually believing something the press state ........     :)

Well at least it looks here in Kent that my voted choice of commissioner , Anne Barnes an Independent, who was the Chair of the Kent Police Authority and I have known during my work with the police, is set to have a big win :y :y.

However, I still believe it was all unnecessary and overall has been an utter waste of time. >:(

For me,although I did vote UKIP,I really can't see that the mediocre service that we receive from TVP is suddenly going to noticably improve because there's a new sheriff in town. The only time you see a police presence in our town is when you go into the local service station on the A329 at around 11 pm, so not really a fan of the local constabulary as I feel that we already don't get value for money and regardless of who's in charge, if the government says jump he or she will say how high because why would you risk your newly accquired 86 grand doddle of a 'job' ::)

there was a disparity between what she sent in an sms to me, and what she quoted  to someone else later

First in SMS
Me :what is your position on privatisation of police?
Her:UKIP genereally opposed to it
Me: so not totally?
Her: never say never on anything, but not at present..

would you trust that?

later stated  via 38 dedgrees.com blog on the subject she stated....

Hilary Jones (UKIP):
UKIP is against the privatisation of any Police services, but you can never say never to anything should the government move the goalposts.

I am the only Merseyside candidate who has been a Merseyside Police officer, although for only a year, so I do understand your concerns.

I have no connections with any company that might wish to tender for contracts, however I cannot comment on any company that currently has contracts.

odd ,that once I checked via contacts in the force, no one even remembers her name, obviously, either a fabrication, or she couldn't cut it...

In the Thames Valley the Conservative candidate won it (no surprise). On the basis if you put the right rosette on a donkey, then depending upon the colour and the part of the country, it would win.

Lib Dems got 20,511 votes 9.0%
UKIP got 19,324 votes 8.5%

Turnout was a massive 13.3%.  :o :o :o :o
