The whole exercise is a colossal waste of time and tax payers money IMO! 

Whatever happened to the 'bonfire of the quangos' ?  The ongoing costs of these commissioners will be massive. If Prezza gets elected for example can you imagine him being content with a desk in the corner? No, there will be grand offices, with lots of staff, advisors, assistants, researchers, secretaries etc 

The whole idea should have been scrapped long ago!

Yep, I had to laugh at the guy on the radio this morning blaming the high percentage of spoilt papers on the fact that the voting system used was not "first past the post" and traditionally had a higher percentage of spoilt papers because us plebs "didn't understand" it. 

I think if someone scrawls words to the effect of "why are you wasting money on this pointless exercise while also cutting numbers of coppers?" on their ballot paper, it's unlikely that a misunderstanding of the voting system is the problem. Condescending ******.

I never voted, and before its said, that I can't moan at the results, do you think it would make any difference!!!!!

It should have been a yes/no vote on change first!!!!!!

And as a postscript, I suppose us taxpayers will be funding the vote counters wages, as they are sent home, having no votes to count !!!!

Some of you may know I am a Conservative Socialist, and I must admit this is one terrible failure and misjudgment by the Coalition.  There was far better things that should be attended to instead of doing something that is a massive waste of money, that we are told in other areas has to be saved, that will achieve nothing.

Unfortunately, I think is was an attempt to stem where to become a Police Commissioner under the last Government you had to ideally be from an ethnic or gender minority or at the very minimum be happy to promote their PC liberal agenda.

Sadly, the police were always interdependent like the civil service until the damage done by the last government where they didn't just blur the lines, but drove an army of PC liberal appointees through it.

This is one of the disadvantages of have an unwritten UK constitution, but it will not matter soon as from 2014 onwards when the Lisbon treaty and Constitution comes into full effect we will be ruled by this with a massive increase in the areas that the EU have total control of, so Parliament will be little more a rubber stamping shop, until it is abolished as part of the Federated States of Europe treaty of 2014-15, when it will be Brussels and regional councils based upon the EU NUTS 1 regions.

Labour tried to set up these regional councils, but were mainly defeated in local referendums for them. So next time don't expect to get a vote as it will be imposed as part of the FSE treaty. Then it is job done, the UK will cease to exist as a country.

One thing to remember when quoting statistics (other than usual warnings on any use of statistics in an argument !  )  is that the "turnout" figures being given on the official sites does NOT include spoiled ballots....

Given the supposedly large numbers of people who have stated to the press that they spoiled their ballot in protest .. then the actual number of folks voting may be considerably higher than votes counted ... 

But that would involve me actually believing something the press state ........

my borough has population of 160,000 and the turnout was less then 3000 !!

Well at least it looks here in Kent that my voted choice of commissioner , Anne Barnes an Independent, who was the Chair of the Kent Police Authority and I have known during my work with the police, is set to have a big win .

However, I still believe it was all unnecessary and overall has been an utter waste of time.
