The World has not ended today, but it is a black day for female motor insurance.
As of today it is illegal for insurance companies to give us different rates from those applied to male drivers. It will mean an average increase across the board of 30%, but for some young woman drivers it will be up to 40%!!
It is an absolute nonsense, and it means thanks to EU intervention the insurance companies cannot fairly take into account that women have far less accidents. >:( >:(
-
It'll be interesting to see if they pass on the extra cash to us blokes by cutting our rates.
Oh, was that a pig just taxying past ready for take off? :D

You ladies are the ones who started the push for "equality" ... it doesn't always pay ... :)
Same thing has happened to your pension dates .....
Law of unintended consequences ??
::) ::) ::) ::) ::)
-
Next it will be no discrimination on age.
Then we will all have to pay the same as an 18 year old. >:(

It's increased womens retirement annuity's, and cut men's.
-
I think that, in a few years, this change will make perfect sense. I am starting to notice a new breed of young women drivers, far more aggressive and loud. They mostly drive old Peugeots with pink steering wheel covers ;D

I'll have you know I have never scratched my cars, but I have had three accidents with me stationery, with my car badly damaged, two classed as "write off's, and guess what........................all three other drivers were men!! ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

Yep, I'll give you that one as I've scored the most severe damage to vehicles in our household, but then again I drive the most so statistically I'm bound to 'connect' more than my wife. ;D ;D
She just comes home and says "I've kerbed the alloys trying to get around some woman with a trolley in Waitrose car park", and when I look annoyed she asked what I'd have done, to which I reply "I'd have run the old *** over". ;) ;) ;D ;D
Only kidding.......................about running her over. ;D :y

My wife crashed into some guy on her way home from work the other night. She told the police that he was drinking and on his mobile phone. The policeman said he could do whatever he liked in his own conservatory.

When is this socialist equality thing going end. Men having to grow breasts and have children and women the reverse so we all have both sexual organs?
I'm all for equality of opportunity and you can have that and also allow men to act like men and women to act like women. This is how it is in the Ukraine and as a result society seems to be much more at ease with itself.
This crazy law is a step too far as all insurance policies should be based upon the risks of defined groups of people, the same with pensions.
The EU will anytime soon outlaw age discrimination for everything, so we can all pay 18 year old car insurance premiums.

I am an individual thank you very much :y
I will add to that my son is 19 with one years no claims and drives a 2.0 SRi Astra and has had no accidents or claims. Girl next door is 20 drives 1.2 Corsa and has just ploughed into the back of a van today. I know I am randomly picking examples to suit, but I still say judge the individual not the group.
I actually agree with STMO there is a new breed of women drivers who are no safer than anyone else.
Forgot to add, most times when a car is to close to my bumper, guess who it is ?
-
Listening to Jeremy Whine today when they were whinging about this, and a woman phoned in to say that she'd had a quote for her daughter of £2400 a couple of days ago. She phoned the insurance company today to set the policy up and pay the premium, only to be told that the premium had gone up to..... £4000!!! :o :o :o
Maybe it should be taken with a pinch of salt, I don't know..... :-\

This is a pure case of the EU enforcing something on the UK that few want. There was no manifesto commitment to force insurers to do this, no vote in the HoC. All it needed was one complaint to the European Court and bingo, we all suffer. Yes, men, too as our annuities will have to fall in line with women. The insurance companies don't want it, the majority of the electorate don't want it – but we can't do anything about it until we leave the EU.
So vote UKIP. :y :y

Tend to agree. From my experience, and not wishing to make huge sweeping stereotypical statements, but it does sem that women are a lot less spatially aware than men, whilst men are just more careless.
Yesterday a prime example. A women in an SUV. Obviously no idea of the size of the car. Backwards and forwards a few times to try to get out my way - I had the right of way and she was trying to turn around in a narrow road. After a few minutes, she gave up and indicated I should reverse up to let her past. I just drove my car around hers! ;D

But with that said - I would also say that if women cost insurance companies less in claims than male drivers, their insurance should be lower. It's obvious. And based on all the criteria possible. Age, NCB, car, BHP, likelihood of theft etc. Build up a database from historic claims and base new premiums on that. Like they have always done, pretty much

Yes, and it has gone far too far now Nick. It has gone away from a logical situation, to demands from a wishful Federal Europe that I, and many Tories, will never accept. Cameron has got to wake up to the feelings now running high in the Conservative Party, and the rest of the country. It is past sitting on the fence time, and he must go for a referendum. :P :P :P

sorry lizzie but if women want equality this is one of the things they have to put up with
got to admit though some of the changes bafel me and i bet male insurance dosnot come down to meet it just another way the insurance companys can rip off everybody some more
But it is not about equality! Fair insurance calculations are based on level of risk, and the odds of an individual having an accident. It has nothing to do with gender equality. So many insurance experts have said that if based on accident probability risk then woman should still benefit from cheaper premiums as they do have less accidents, and when they do, they are often more minor than those of say, 18-25 year of men.
As I cannot see male premiums coming down, it is just an excuse for insurance companies to make more money at the expense of us women. The EU have just rubber stamped, yet again, a completely illogical change!! >:(

woman do not have less accidents..what they do is cost insurance companies less, after all its just basic business maths,ie how much coming in versus how much going out.men cost insurance companies more so they charge more.gender so called gender equality has been going on for years,as an example if you were a cop having to bust up a saturday night brawl would you a, prefer to have a politically correct 5 ft nothing female backing you up,only there because pc says you must or b, an ex marine 6ft gorilla trained in hurting people. its wimmin whineing about equality that have got us here, whinge to your sisters.

................and about another statement you have made: So you think someone who is "trained in hurting people" is a good qualification for a police officer??!! Believe me the police officers I have worked with need that in their team as much as a hole in the head, as they want to keep their jobs. In addition the female PC's can use their specific skills to achieve as much as their male colleagues and stay within the law themselves. Also it is not about women winging at all, but achieving recognition in life and not being rated as a lower human being than men! Men have been the masters of the universe too long, and look at the mess you have made of everything with your aggressive, war like nature. All women want is fairness, and thank God there are now many men who agree with that basic principle. ;) ;)
-
now Lizzie, we all could go trawling the internet looking for info to prove any point we want, its all out there somewhere, and if you believe Clarkson, all facts on the internet are wrong anyway ;D ;)
imo its a confidence thing, the girls just arent, simple. Generally speaking anyway. That explains it all from there on in imo.
you could also argue men are over confident, and everything that gfoes with that too.
the single most impotrtant thing that everyone agrees is, men and women are different, we've just proved that. just look at the arguments above.
So we cant then complain that we're not treated equally, because we are not equal. Yet somehow, the Ladys have managed to pull off the impossible and achieve equality where there simply is non.
...yet, "we're" still not happy. You didnt expect your insurance to actually come down did you? silly girl. ;)
and you've completely missed Sassanachs point, quite deliberately in fact. ::)
-
Women tend to have lots of small dings, most times they drive off claiming not to know,
when a young bloke has an accident, usually the car isnt drivable,
insurance comanies know this, but work on claims only.
-
http://www.statisticbrain.com/male-and-female-driving-statistics/
thats your proof? all that says is that im more likely to break the law than you, kinell, no sh+t sherlock award goes to lizzie
its called being a geezer/confidence/arrogance take your pick.its why there are no female racing drivers or m/c riders worth mentioning.men take risks, thats why we pay more insurance, our accidents are much more destructive.ps bye the way, life isnt fair not in the real world anyway
-
It's also Merkin, not UK
I can't find an equivalent site with UK statistics.
I'm guessing that the insurance companies keep their figures secret.
-

I have almost said all I have to :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X :y :y :y
However, I will give all you men one thing; woman in 4x4's should never be allowed out! They are a menace as most cannot park the ruddy things, let alone safely drive them! Yet again two days ago a female driver in a Range Rover cut a corner in front of me and almost demolished my front offside wing! :o :o :o :o :o Those bitches should be charged all the increase for insurance being given to us sensible women drives!
Rant over. Happy Christmas! :y :y :y :y :y :y :y :y :y :y

I'd ban 4x4s altogether meself. Unless a farm owner or some legitimate use can be proved. And living up a gravel track does not count.
4x4s being very different from 4wheel drives like Subaru's audi's and ir32's etc.

I used to have pretty liberal views on 4x4s, figuring they are petrol heads like the rest of us, after all. First they came for the Communists, etc...
However, my views have changed since I've been doing a bit of mountain biking. I really don't understand the attraction fat forty-something blokes get from winching a rusty old Disco TDi that reeks of vegetable oil, inch by inch, down a byway with wheels spinning, up to their axles in mud. It certainly breaks up the path for any ramblers, cyclists or horse riders who would otherwise enjoy getting away from the traffic and god knows what the few individuals who rely on it for access to their homes do.
As if that's not bad enough they then dump half a tonne of mud in front of the jetwash at the first garage they come across, blocking the drains and rendering it unavailable to those who drive something actually worth washing. >:(
If you want to gratuitously burn some fuel for entertainment, get an old nail that actually moves and book a track day.
-
about one percent of the paths available to walk have vehicular access, I live down an unmade road and the number of redsock wearing ramblers who get lost down here would shock you.
the local Landrover club have organised days out on greenlanes, probably half the people in the cars would never see the tops of the high roads without a 4x4, wheelchair bound or disabled in some way.
if the lane is so bad it needs a winch it shouldnt be driven,
anyway have you seen the scars up most of the popular mountains? they have to airlift paving slabs in to stop the erosion.
-
I don't dispute that organised, responsible 4x4 owners put a lot back into the community. I have friends among them, and live in a village which is cut off by snow from time to time, and they are normally out helping the needy out, against the advice of the Police and Council, normally. :y
It's the element who ignore the signs stating that byways are closed except for access due to rain and proceed to carve deep ruts in them who annoy me. Yes, there are plenty of footpaths, but I prefer to use wider paths if tearing along on a mountain bike out of courtesy to other users. Every path here where you are not physically prevented from getting a 4x4 down it is churned up so badly that it's useless to anybody else.

Playing devil's advocate. As an employer, you know that most women will take time off due to pregnancy. Does that give them the right to calculate poor efficiency/value and hence not employ women? Equality means not discriminating against men as well. It works both ways.
-
Gaaaaw don't get me started on ramblers. Jeez... Ok ok, probably not all bad, but cutting down saplings and bows to block footpaths to cyclists..!
No, i'll leave it there...

chris ramblers caurse more damage to the country side than biles ever do i speak from expireance when one who could not read a map garage door bcause he said that that was where the path went when the bobbys pionted out to him that he was 1/3 amile of the path he said they can afford to put the damage right and tried to walk off £299 fine and £600 for the damage made him think the majestrait gave him 48 hrs to pay and he did
