When is this socialist equality thing going end. Men having to grow breasts and have children and women the reverse so we all have both sexual organs?

I'm all for equality of opportunity and you can have that and also allow men to act like men and women to act like women. This is how it is in the Ukraine and as a result society seems to be much more at ease with itself.

This crazy law is a step too far as all insurance policies should be based upon the risks of defined groups of people, the same with pensions.

The EU will anytime soon outlaw age discrimination for everything, so we can all pay 18 year old car insurance premiums.

I am an individual thank you very much  :y

I will add to that my son is 19 with one years no claims and drives a 2.0 SRi Astra and has had no accidents or claims. Girl next door is 20 drives 1.2 Corsa and has just ploughed into the back of a van today. I know I am randomly picking examples to suit, but I still say judge the individual not the group.
I actually agree with STMO there is a new breed of women drivers who are no safer than anyone else.

Forgot to add, most times when a car is to close to my bumper, guess who it is ?

Listening to Jeremy Whine today when they were whinging about this, and a woman phoned in to say that she'd had a quote for her daughter of £2400 a couple of days ago.  She phoned the insurance company today to set the policy up and pay the premium, only to be told that the premium had gone up to..... £4000!!!  :o  :o  :o

Maybe it should be taken with a pinch of salt, I don't know.....  :-\

The World has not ended today, but it is a black day for female motor insurance.

As of today it is illegal for insurance companies to give us different rates from those applied to male drivers.  It will mean an average increase across the board of 30%, but for some young woman drivers it will be up to 40%!!

It is an absolute nonsense, and it means thanks to EU intervention the insurance companies cannot fairly take into account that women have far less accidents>:( >:(

 :-X :-X  ......................they just accumulate the most scratches and dents.   ;) ;) ;D ;D
women have always had more accidents than men... but and here is the rub..mens accidents are usually quite spectacular(and costly)whereas female accidents tend to be minor car park dings

This is a pure case of the EU enforcing something on the UK that few want. There was no manifesto commitment to force insurers to do this, no vote in the HoC. All it needed was one complaint to the European Court and bingo, we all suffer. Yes, men, too as our annuities will have to fall in line with women. The insurance companies don't want it, the majority of the electorate don't want it – but we can't do anything about it until we leave the EU.

So vote UKIP. :y :y

My wife crashed into some guy on her way home from work the other night. She told the police that he was drinking and on his mobile phone. The policeman said he could do whatever he liked in his own conservatory.

Tend to agree. From my experience, and not wishing to make huge sweeping stereotypical statements, but it does sem that women are a lot less spatially aware than men, whilst men are just more careless.
Yesterday a prime example. A women in an SUV. Obviously no idea of the size of the car. Backwards and forwards a few times to try to get out my way - I had the right of way and she was trying to turn around in a narrow road. After a few minutes, she gave up and indicated I should reverse up to let her past. I just drove my car around hers!  ;D

But with that said - I would also say that if women cost insurance companies less in claims than male drivers, their insurance should be lower. It's obvious. And based on all the criteria possible. Age, NCB, car, BHP, likelihood of theft etc. Build up a database from historic claims and base new premiums on that. Like they have always done, pretty much

Yes, and it has gone far too far now Nick.  It has gone away from a logical situation, to demands from a wishful Federal Europe that I, and many Tories, will never accept. Cameron has got to wake up to the feelings now running high in the Conservative Party, and the rest of the country.  It is past sitting on the fence time, and he must go for a referendum. :P :P :P

But it is not about equality!  Fair insurance calculations are based on level of risk, and the odds of an individual having an accident.  It has nothing to do with gender equality.  So many insurance experts have said that if based on accident probability risk then woman should still benefit from cheaper premiums as they do have less accidents, and when they do, they are often more minor than those of say, 18-25 year of men.

As I cannot see male premiums coming down, it is just an excuse for insurance companies to make more money at the expense of us women.  The EU have just rubber stamped, yet again, a completely illogical change!! >:(

woman do not have less accidents..what they do is cost insurance companies less, after all its just basic business maths,ie how much coming in versus how much going out.men cost insurance companies more so they charge more.gender so called gender equality has been going on  for years,as an example if you were a cop having to bust up a saturday night brawl would you a, prefer to have a politically correct 5 ft nothing female backing you up,only there because pc says you must or b, an ex marine 6ft gorilla trained in hurting people. its wimmin whineing about equality that have got us here, whinge to your sisters.
