Hi all my buddy just had his tensioner pully fail, bearing seized and plastic outer ripped of no other damage i can see other than an overheat of coolant, is the tensioner easy to change, if so how do i do it ?
Maybe i should mention its a 2.6 elite 2002
thanks in advance

Very easy. 15mm socket, just open the bolt and put new tensioner roller in. New part is available from dealers and const is less than 50 euros. Part no 9157962

Yes, 2 torx bolts that hold it in. If renewing the whole tensioner, you need to remove cable tray as well.
The V6 Cambelt DVD (http://shop.omegaowners.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=3&products_id=7) might be useful in this case ::)

Yes, 2 Torx bolts, left hand side of the tensioner as you're stood in front of the car. :y
You do know the pulley wheel is available on its own! :-\

That can not be price for genuine WHOLE tensioner... :o
-
Sounds like that price is just for the plastic pulley and baring? The tensioner itself is much more I thought...?
Tensioner itself is almost bomb proof, its the pulley baring that usually fails.

On trade, pulley is around £25+VAT, entore tensioner around £45+VAT IIRC

heres the link for the site i found, they say part No.s ending with an N are genuine parts

When your part arrives, I'd be inclined to replace just the pulley & leave the original tensioner in place. ;)

No issue with non GM parts for that part, as long as its a quality bearing. But I'd only change the actual tensioner if it had failed, otherwise just the pulley/bearing.

Yeah i know, my local parts center has no listing for just the bearing roller ad the guy needs the car ASAP and was prepared to pay the cost, so that is what i will do, i did try to tell him otherwise,
On another note, does the belt on the 2.6 route the same as on the 2.5, if not has anyone got a copy of the routing diagram please?
And once again many thanks for prompt replies
