Aux belt + Tensioner change
« on: 18 January 2013, 07:25:48 »

Hi all my buddy just had his tensioner pully fail, bearing seized and plastic outer ripped of no other damage i can see other than an overheat of coolant, is the tensioner easy to change, if so how do i do it ?
Maybe i should mention its a 2.6 elite 2002

thanks in advance
Mike

Very easy. 15mm socket, just open the bolt and put new tensioner roller in. New part is available from dealers and const is less than 50 euros. Part no 9157962

Yes, 2 torx bolts that hold it in. If renewing the whole tensioner, you need to remove cable tray as well.

The V6 Cambelt DVD might be useful in this case ::)

Yes, 2 Torx bolts, left hand side of the tensioner as you're stood in front of the car.  :y
You do know the pulley wheel is available on its own! :-\

Sounds like that price is just for the plastic pulley and baring? The tensioner itself is much more I thought...?

Tensioner itself is almost bomb proof, its the pulley baring that usually fails.

When your part arrives, I'd be inclined to replace just the pulley & leave the original tensioner in place.  ;)
