Title: Trafic is going.....
Post by: Taxi_Driver on 03 February 2013, 19:13:50
Ok it was leased, but its going back this week....i cannot justify the cost of it anymore.

Still for a trafic, its done well, ive had it 6 months and covered 30k miles in it.

Since ive had it, on day 2, the slave cylinder for the clutch went. Garage fitted new slave cylinder and clutch the next day.......since then nothing has broken.

It did fail its MOT last week, for a frayed seatbelt  ::) Which was a rather petty fail imo, nearly as bad as a fail for something that should never be mentioned on here  :-X

Still, we (the lease comp and me) had a bit of fun with the MOT tester.
The belt was removed and taken to a leather shop (they have industrial strength sowing machines) just down the road.....the frayed section was at the end of the belt......so they cut a foot off the belt and stitched it back together.....jobs a goodun  ;)

Back to MOT station and a pass, the MOT bloke checked all the other belts again, in case they had been swapped around.....then he just had to ask what was done.....so i told him the belt was another one swapped over from another trafic and the frayed belt is in another trafic now....because the lease comp want to see if he fails it again when that trafic is bought in for a MOT, his face was a picture..   ;D ;D

As for its replacement.....i'd quite like a skoda octavia estate (new shape) .... however in the short term (hopefully) its a skoda superb saloon (08 plate, old shape) high miler, as its already been used as a cab.......hopefully it wont be as bad as the skudo  :-\

Does Holly Dog help you choose what to have next? Or does she dream of the butchers instead?

The estate is for her.....purely selfishness on my part, coz i dont muddy paws on the seats....however as its a saloon for now, she'll have to wipe her paws everytime she gets in the back.

Plus in an estate she and me is safer, if i have to do an emergency stop......a 30kg dog slides into the back seat......on the back seats....hmmm  :-\

And she always dreams of sausages  ;D ;D

Well, it went on Thursday.

Didnt get the 08 Superb, something not quite right with it on the test drive. Ive driven superb's before and they usually feel quite solid......this one didnt  :-\

Went to have a look at an 06 superb and a look was as far as it got  :o Shed on wheels with 260k on it clock. I think it had something growing in the headlamps  :o

So, ive now got a 07 Passat saloon 2.0 Tdi .... 160k  :y Still getting used to electric parking brake on it. Couple of scratches on it, but pretty tidy for a 6 year old car  :y

I have always liked Passats, but could never justify their initial cost vs what else is on the market.  But I suppose your main cost is fuel, thus a good buy :y

Wait until it fails; it might be worth practicing the necessary swearing now! They tend to stick on, and there is no manual release. It's definately worth checking if it's had the software updates(a truly stupid need for a problem that shouldn't exist) or a new switch.

Well, it is only a temporary car and as a 'taxi' its all about fuel economy these days and reliability, sod what it looks like  :y

It was doing crap mpg when i got it......now its had a few good trips down the m4, the mpg has definitely improved......i guess it needed a clear out....not sure why you say its a shed of an engine  :-\  The fuel comp is now reporting an av of about 55mpg.....im doing the same mileage as i was in the trafic and putting £30 of diesel in it a day, as oppose to £40 in the trafic  :y

I had a customer with an A4 with the older engine which he bought at 180k miles and ran to 351k when it got written off,the only repair that engine had was a injector loom at 340k,pretty good I reckon :y
