People need to be told officially whether they should eat any processed beef foods in the wake of the discovery of horsemeat in Findus lasagne, the shadow environment secretary has said.
Really? We need to be told whether or not to eat processed beef? Aren't we all capable of making up our own minds anymore?
Wait, what am I saying.. of course we're not.
-
I don't need any "official" to tell me what to eat or not .. I'm an adult with a brain.. and I'm well able to use it.. thank you. >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

Baaaaaah!
Hmm. Might be some Lasagne going cheap, though. :-*
Right.. we need a scandal about what goes into a Naga Chicken next. ::)

the horse meat is prob better than the crap thats normaly in the dam food to start with, some of the processed stuff if you saw it being made you would never touch it again i know ive seen inside some of these plants when i used to repart machinery. ::)

Saw in the news the other day where the EU is setting new standards for beef mince. The UK government want an opt out where it will be defined as 2/3 meat to a 1/3 filler, where the filler is fat, sinuses etc., where they want to allow UK beef mince to continue to be up to 50% filler. >:( >:( >:( >:(
Which just goes to show that you can't trust beef mince either and really need to be mincing your own!
-
Ive given up on meat while this is going on.
Sat here happily with a nice bowl of red rum and raison ice cream :)

Curry? ??? ;D
As for the meat thing... Just start selling horse in this country and all will be sorted :-X :D

Thought it would have been off by now - it died years ago

Latest major to be hit by these scares is B & Q - investigators checking wooden flooring found "laminate".

Why?
Beef and horse taste very similar, IMO horse is fractionally tougher - though hard to tell in euro land, esp France, as their bef steaks are tough as hell. And probably horse anyway ;D

Absolutely gutted, I have a gay allergy to steak and kidney pies :'(
So I chomped a mince horse beef pukka pie on Wed's trip to chippy :)

Now who is behind that then? Food industry lobbying parliament maybe. I have got to say that todays interview with the environment minister was pretty uninspiring. I wonder if when they are testing for horse and find horse and no beef, if they dipped "pig" litmus in whether they would find pig! It all seems to have gone tremendously quiet on that front. maybe the government are frightened to death of a religous backlash and are creating a horse smokescreen to hide behind before /while it is all cleaned up. What a totally sad state of affairs we have stooped to in the interests of profit and ultimate cheapness in food, especially lasagne which is a simple dish to create from scratch. We reap what we sow.

If they cooked them it'd help... Coming from someone who likes them rare anyway. ;D

Bifteck is basically frying steak, usually horse meat and is a cheap cut that is usually tough. I used to make the mistake of ordering this, but one I asked for the more expensive rumsteak, filet de boeuf or faux filet off the menu then you can get a steak as good as those in the UK. I agree they cook their meat rare, which also suited me, but not my ex-wife, who used to as for her steak "bien cuit" but it is difficult to get this where French chefs understand well cooked steaks are generally a bit tougher, so don't like leaving it to cook for longer.

Has it got hooves ? ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Personally have eaten horse meat many times - its ok but as said slightly tougher than beef.
In Sweden used to have roast "bambi" with chips.
The issue is the products sold were not as described - but being pragmatic no one was at any risk as a result
;)

This could be a good thing in the long run, perhaps people will support their local butcher and farmers markets, by buying British Beef. :y
Let's face it, it's not difficult to cook a cottage Pie or Bolognese Sauce. If times an issue then make a big batch and freeze portions for later :y
-
A lot of people simply can't afford what the butcher charges. Plus, most of the butchers round these parts are in town. Local ones driven out of business long ago.

I have no desire to support our "local" farmers market, as sure is shit stinks, they ain't local.

If people looked hard enough they'd probably find an affordable one ;)
We're lucky... We have 2/3 reasonably close who aren't dramatically more than half decent supermarket meat but taste is 100 times better :y

I'm afraid I disagree. I live in an area where lots of folk are on benefits, and they really can't afford anything other than what asda have to offer.

But if they spent just a fraction more for decent meat they wouldn't need as much ;)
And let's not go into the fact that many of them probably have the latest gadgets, full Sky subscription, go to the pub a few times a week and smoke 20 a day :-X ::)
