Morning all... thought i'd share my tales of misery. My wife certainly doesn't care LOL
So. I pick up an amazing 3.0 MV6 (V Reg) with awesome alloys, performance injection, imerscher kit, PS2, three screens, the works.
Bargain! But had to go all the way from Devon to the West Midlands to Rugby to pick it up.
She drives like a dream, though at about 80 she gets the wobbles. Wheels need balancing I assume!
15 days after buying her, I take her to to Exeter to get the wheels balanced. As I am sat indicating to turn right into ProTyre, a Picasso hits the back of me, sends me 180 degrees to the right, pushing up against the curb.
Needless to say I am not a happy chappy!
Find out yesterday that insurance company refuse to even assess the car and would rather just pay out on it (due to age).
I was going to insist on an assessment but, found a mint condition 2.6 V6 in grey in Plymouth.
It was on ebay and at about £500 when I saw it. Needed it now. So called the bloke up and offered him a fair amount more to take it off his hands there and then.
So... fastest turn around on getting a new miggy, which helps grieve the loss of the old one.

In never rains... no lasting harm done, which is good :y

Yeah.. I tried at side of road, but didn't have enough T-Cut!
-
Sorry to hear of the misfortune but I trust you are OK?
Right then, and more to the point, who refused to assess the vehicle? Your insurers or the other party? It's an important point because if you have claimed directly from the other party instead of via your insurance (this assumes you didn't then hit someone/thing else) they have no right to write off your vehicle as you don't have a contract with them ;) It's a longer process but you can insist that they repair it or replace with an identical vehicle ;)
It's been covered here a few times. The essence is that you have no contract with them so they must put you back into the same position you were in prior to the accident with no financial penalty to yourself ;)
-
Yeah third party claims full liability
They initially offered bottom end but telling them that this would result in legal disputes over being financially out of pocket they offered me too end which was £60 more than I bought the car for!

As long as you're happy with the outcome then that's all that matters ;) :y

Which is the cause of all our inflated insurance premiums >:( ::)
Of course... If the OP genuinely has whiplash then :y
-
Sad to hear of your loss! :'( :'(
At least you have had the good fortune of finding another. :y :y :y :y
With that damage the old one was always going to be a write off, as one of mine was with a similar rear end shunt. :'( :'( :'(
This was mine, and I got £1650 for it that paid totally for my current miggy!

Yes, and like you, it took some of the sting out of losing the old miggy. :y :y

Thats fixable, but it will probably cost a few hundred quid.Needs a bodyshop jig to pull the boot floor back to where it should be,then replacement bootlid & bumper. :y

It's a shame but insurance companies will right off a even 10 year old just for bumper damage these days. My insurance company wrote off my 2003 Mondeo because the goat had half eaten the drivers and passenger seats. They gave me 3000 euro's for it, i bought the car back from them for 400e, bought second hand seats for 150e and re-registered it and sold it for 4200 euro's.
The goats have a nice new pen now.

Don't now if its a shadow or not but it looks like the nearside rear quarter has a kink in it :(
-
Possibly but thats would easily be fixable too.I had a truck reverse into the rear quarter of my first Omega. It made a hell of a mess of it.Left it in a bodyshop in the morning, collected it in the evening and you could never tell it had been hit.
A decent bodyshop can work magic, but finding a good one which doesnt charge the earth is the hard part. :y

It depends. If it's been hit up the arse at an angle it may have pushed the rear end over to one side.
-
Could still be straightened and realigned on a jig.Just depends on cost.

Yeah, thats the prohibitive bit and probably not worth it on an Omega :(
-
Yep,unless OP has a contact in a good bodyshop who can do it as a cash job. :y
-
Boot floor has been pushed through about a foot!
:/
-
Still fixable mate.Just depends if you can get it done at a price thats worth it for you.I did my daughters old clit by attaching a strong chain to the back of the car and the other end to a forklift truck. Then gradually pulled it out.The hatch even closed properly afterwards. ;D
Not saying it would necesarrily do a proper job on your car though. ;)
-
Well I am sure that the next person to take it from the scrapyard will give it a good go :)
:D Will post photos of the new one at the end of the week :)
-
shame that :(

Did similar to a neon only tied its ass to a tree stump and pulled it straight ;D
-
When we had our big shunt back in 2011 in our Senator[accident not my fault]the lady I spoke to on the phone was insistent that they were going to assess it for possible repair, even though I told her that the car was about 2ft shorter at the front than it was designed to be and that the fire service had cut the roof off!
