Firstly, I am surprised that nobody has started this evil story on this wonderful forum.
Anyway I will kick off,
How come that those a******s can get away with basically killing their own children, all six of them and get max 17 years for the mother and her (friend!) and your man getting more or less the same but with a review in a few years time.
I have something here that would solve the problem in an instant. Eh!! three instances.
These people in my opinion should not be allowed to breath our air.
It goes to show how this once wonderful country of ours has gone down the tubes this past few years.
I am old enough to remember that (ONE) murder in the UK would bring a front page news on most of the national newspapers and bringing a national abhorrence to that particular deed.
Moral compass my arse!!

I would gas him. ;)

Nope. Stick `em all in a room full of toxic furniture, douse it with petrol and lock the oppsing door

You may be right.RobG actually had the better response. ;)

I was rather hoping we'd miss the subject altogether personally.

Whether we like it or not .. he started the fire with the intention of "rescuing" the kids to make him look good .. he did NOT start the fire with the intention of killing the kids.
Murder, by definition, is the premeditated intention to kill ... clearly not the case, so the best he could be charged with is manslaughter, where actions (or lack of) cause unintentional death.
The major difference between the majority of decent folks and this "man", and what makes us decent people, is the adherence to the laws of both the land and of humanity, sometimes the results may not be what we wish .. but we abide by, and enforce, those laws.
So in this case the law says manslaughter not murder, and we must accept that or we become like him - self serving and selfish.

The subject has been touched upon in the Benefits thread. They are closely related.
Shoot the tosspot. In front of his remaining kids. Then shoot the wife and mistress. And to be honest, the remaining kids don't stand a chance if life now, so I'd be pleasantly surprised if any of them don't grow up with their father's ideals.

Capital punishment? Nah! Too quick and too easy for the likes of them!! ::)
Life imprisonment! and life would mean exactly that, but it would be hard time! ;) The cell would be bare except for a bog, a bed and a New Testament (No exceptions for other religions or Atheists) and they would be fed basic food (bread and water? ???) and only let out for hard labour. :)
They'd have plenty of time to think about their misdeeds..... ;)

He's already sponged enough off the state. Why should he continue to be a burden on the country. Lock him in a room, let him starve, see if he gets hungry enough to eat his on shit.

I have to agree with this sentiment whether I like it or not the sentences handed down by the judge were the maximum that the guidelines allow.
Phillpot will never get out and his life will be a living hell :y As for his wife and pal then 17 years serving half inside and half on license is what is allowed.
Personally it is the law that needs changing and none of these low lives should ever see the light of day again >:(
-
Agreed.Life should mean life imo. :y

Find myself agreeing with Tiger for he 2nd time today! Scum like this should be left to rot.

Pretty sure he won't come out alive, the
screws warders will leave him in the shower and he will slip over ::) :-\ :y and she will get sorted by the other women. Well lets hope so.

A well balanced, reasonable, non vigilante post.

Nah, I suspect they will be treated like nonces, who are the most hated in prison communities. Thus be segregated for their own protection... ...and the costs will spiral

I personally know of two nonces in prison and one of them has repeatedly tried to take his own life. The problem is they keep on bringing him round!!! ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) :( :( :(

hang the barstewards and save a load of cash that will pay my bedroom tax for a few years :y

I heard on the radio news on my way home from work that the Phillpots received an estimated £55000 in benefits! :o
I'm willing to bet that not many here are grossing that much ...... let alone receive that as net income. :-X :-X :-X

As I get older I seem to be mellowing on the aspect of the return of hanging . It seems to be a very 19th century act.
However ,after watching several programmes filmed within prison walls over the past couple of years I think a " life sentence ", as in exactly that, would be a dreadful prospect to face .I would add that the United States has a much more punitive regime that I would certainly prefer to see adopted in UK .
I do agree though that the sentences handed down to the three seem to be inordinately lenient under the circumstances and at odds with public opinion .
Anyway, have a wee look at this video which gives a chilling ,matter of fact insight into the act of "death by hanging".
I post it not to try and change anyone's views but just to let you see what's involved.

Three at a time seems rather appropriate in this case :y

That film was morbidly fascinating!
I read an article about hanging once and it described a prison in England that had got the art of execution down to a fine art. The condemned mans cell was directly linked to the execution chamber via a concealed door and they once took 7 seconds to hang a man. That was from the moment the Prison Officers entered the cell, took the man through the secret door and dropped him!! 7 seconds!!! :o

Nah, sadly not. The £100k a year it will cost to keep him inside will not even make a dent in the £220bn welfare bill.
There isn't an easy answer for your predicament :'(
-
Lethal 3 injections like they get on death row ... thats the only way forward that will work for these type of sick animals :(

Far too humane. Needs to be something worse that a slow, terminal illness.

Apparently he was recieving £60,000 pa in benefits. He would have needed a job which paid £100k p.a. to make it worth his while to work. Despite what the left have been screaming this week,it epitomises everythng that is wrong with our welfare (well unfair) state.

There should be a cap, some people just think they can go on having child after child with no means to support them >:(
Although it sounds a lot, with 15 kids bet it did not go far :-\
Real issue is the cost it will be to keep him "safe" in prison, then the inevitable costs of a new identify when he is released. (hopefully someone will get to him before then ::))

A cap of £26,000 p.a is being applied soon (thats approx £35,000 of a wage before deductions). The usual suspects are screaming blue murder about it being evil, savage, unfair blah blah blah. I personally think its obscene to object to a cap.
He had an extansion built so he could have his own snooker room, haf a sports car and a people carrier and spent plenty of time in the local pubs.He wasnt short of a few bob. He actually had the kids to get more money from the state. It was his career.

I think that's more than enough, I know people who are on considerably less than that, but have a good lifestyle!
If we scrapped benefits and NHS, we would be a very wealthy country ::)

I agree with the cap Tunnie, it is the rest of the Benefits blitz that raises real doubts! ;) ;)
On your point about a wealthy country; who would be in line for that wealth? Don't kid yourself if you think it would go to the likes of you or me! Again the rich would just get richer as usual. ::) ::) ::)

I would not expect the wealth, it's what would happen because of the scrapped benefits. No doubt a huge amount of people would leave!
I would expect better roads though, more cash for you HS2 as well (but lets not go there ;D)
Fully support the cap, hopefully will make people think a bit more.

Remember though, under a capitalist system the rich have to get richer before the poor can get become less poor. Its the trickle down effect.
The alternative is just to keep taxing the rich more and more to try to make wealth level regardless of all other factors. Its the politics of envy and it has never ever worked.

Trouble is, the country's "average" wage is £25k. The cap is still way to high. Under no circumstance should somebody on benefits be financially better off than someone who works full time.

I have loved this extract since 'discovering' it at uni:
Two nations between whom there is no intercourse and no sympathy; who are ignorant of each other's habits, thoughts and feelings, as if they were dwellers in different zones or inhabitants of different planets; who are formed by different breeding, are fed by different food, are ordered by different manners, and are not governed by the same laws ... THE RICH AND THE POOR.
Benjamin Disraeli 1845
From his novel Sybil. ;)
A Conservative Prime Minister in Victorian England, he is my ideal, along with the later Churchill, of a Conservative Socialist that I profess to be. In 1874, the Conservatives won a huge election victory and Disraeli once more became prime minister, aged 70. He concentrated on social reform, with a codifying of the law on public health, passed laws to prevent labour exploitation and recognise trades unions. ;) ;)

Indeed, if you spread the wealth irrespectively of talent, skill, knowledge, dedication, foresight, intelligence etc, you will have people prepared to sit around on their arses, and expect to be paid, and those that are doing all the work to bring the wealth in will soon think "why do I bother", and clear off to somewhere where they are rewarded for their work.
Oh, hang on a mo, we live in such a country.....
