Ouch :o
-
Whether his name is roger budden or otherwise, 4k is ridiculous...
-
Blimey that's a good price for Rodger :)
RB=Robbing Bastard or Rich Bugger you choose :D
-
Someone's put a deposit on it... not sure that's an unreasonable price for a dealer car tbh given the mileage and condition :-\ only thing missing is a CID...
-
That condition it is worth the money
-
Were does he find them. Bet he only paid £1500,to some old duffer.

Wager less than that

Seems a tad steep to me imo

You've got to love 'Robber Budden'
The guy has a great sense of humour. ;D
Nice motor......but. :-\ :-\

Probably close to £500. :-\
-
Strewth.....it's done almost 70,000 miles to boot.
-
All the time people pay that sort of money from him,he will keep selling them at those prices.
After all said and done he is in the business to make a profit, trouble is we know the true value in £,s and our prices are miles less than his.
Decent car though and very tidy, but plenty as good for less just possibly requiring a little work
-
Market is the market.....but 5+ owners for 69000 miles or am I misreading?
-
Think its a typo, and should read 5 star +...then he got overwhelmed with the profit he was likely to make ;D

Debateable. Depends whether selling or buying :-X ::)
-
I must contact Robber Budden and ask him what my immaculate 53 plate MV6 is worth to him. ::) ::)
I'm guessing at £495 for a £3495 ticket price. :-X

What's going on with that grill?
RB has a long standing contact at a VX dealer, who gives him the nod if an omega comes in on px. If RB doesn't buy it, it goes off to auction.
...he once told me anyway. Long time ago now. He turns up at auctions and private ads as well though. So there's hope Opti. ;)

Tight arse ;D
Actually, that's not quite correct, but you get the drift ::)

I remember 'watching' a car on ebay at £2000 humming and harring, he bought it and sold it for £4000....... ::) ::) ::)

£2000 of profit. Not a bad return for simply wiping it down with a damp cloth. :-\

There are no big 'American muscle cars' on this forum. :P :P :P

What nobody has mentioned is that RB does have an excellent track record for after-sales support. In addition to that, he knows the Omega and all of its' foibles. Having worked on a few cars that have come through his hands, I know that they are sold with all the usual niggles fixed. I also know from those who have purchased from him that he's willing to rectify any post-sale niggles without quibble.
It costs him money to provide that sort of service where most 2nd hand car dealers would tart a car up with minimum expense and move it on, then start ducking and diving if the customer has problems.
Yet we compare his prices to cars sold on here or ebay, where there's no comeback whatsoever. ::)
Would I pay the premium and buy a car from him? Not sure. TBH, membership here means that any potential Omega problem is rendered insignificant by the knowledge available, but, for other buyers, that premium might be worth paying. If he weren't selling them he wouldn't pay to advertise them, after all.
-
I agree, Kevin. The omega is a fantastic car with a terrible reputation. If you can get hold of one that you know has been truly sorted, with a warranty to boot, the I feel people would be more likely to pay a fair price.
We are used to paying peanuts and expecting expensive problems, surely it would be preferable to pay a premium for a car that's had it all done.
If I wanted an omega and RB was nearer to me, I would pay his price and also try to get him/his mechanic to maintain it for me. No doubt if you fell out of love with it, he would take it off your hands....and Mark it straight back up again. ;D

Perhaps so, Kevin. However, I still consider Robber Budden's 'mark up' to be excessive in the extreme.
Personally, I would avoid him like the plague should I be looking for another Omega. :y
Horses for courses, I suppose. :)

Fair enough. My point is that that markup doesn't (all) go straight into his pocket in the way it does to an ebay seller. Whether you wish to pay it depends on your attitude to the relative risks.
The other point to mention is that he clearly has contacts who can still turn up Omegas in decent condition and low mileage. Mine is at 160k now, and shows no signs of becoming a liability yet, but, when it does, and assuming I decide to replace it like with like, I suspect I won't be tripping over 3.2 MV6s with 60k on the clock for sale. If he turned one up I might be prepared to pay a premium for it, if it was the right car, simple because he has access to the right car and nobody else does.

Not yet (http://jandeane81.com/images/smilies/eyebrows.gif)
My dad always pays over the odds for his cars going to dealers , ive told him about how much he could save by buying private but he just wont do it :(
-
Trouble is, the savings are only as good as the car...
My cheapest cars cost £100. Some were useable with the odd issue, others were better scrapped two owners previously. Sure you pay a premium when buying from a specialist or a main dealer, but that isn't always a bad thing imho :-\
As a case study:
Example A:
A 2003 3.2 Elite Estate with 70k miles from RB £3995.
Example B:
A 2003 3.2 Elite Estate from a local Part Ex outlet £1495.
Replace worn out suspension, plus alignment £1000.
Four new tyres £400.
MoT, two advisories, £200.
Cambelt/WP, fitted, £240.
Full Service, parts/labour £200.
Coilpacks £160.
HBV £50.
Crank sensor £75.
Six months tax, £154.
Total: £2479 + £1495 = £3974.
You might save £800 or so doing it all yourself, but that's about what is required to be done to an unknown Omega in the first six months of ownership...
It's not a question of how much you spend, rather when you spend it :y
-
Have to agree with Al, and Kevin - to a point -... :) As an RB "buyer" 5 years ago ....
The car was immaculate as described.
The Cambelt was changed by RB Mechs at 71000 miles, simply as it was due at 78000 from the documents. It also had a full service carried out and fully documented, this included brake pads/disks as well as the normal stuff.
It was discovered (whilst the towbar was being fitted) that the self leveling had been changed to standard shocks.... this had not been discussed (as RB had no knowledge !!) and self leveling was needed due to the amount of towing I do. The conversation with RB on the phone lasted less than a minute, as he immediately accepted the problem and arranged for brand new GM self levelers to be fitted. all at no cost to me at all.
I would imagine at many retail outlets I would have had some serious arguing ... for an ebay purchase .. ?? not a chance of rectification.
As said .. not everyone's choice, but if he wasn't selling them he wouldn't be in business. would I buy from him again ... certainly if it was the right car and I thought the price was right.
-
Thanks Nige :y I knew I'd forgotten summat... add another £240 for discs and pads all round ::)
-
Thanks Nige :y I knew I'd forgotten summat... add another £240 for discs and pads all round ::)
Yep, and then bear in mind that we have the knowledge to diagnose Omega issues very effectively, access to trade club parts and the ability to do most repair and servicing jobs ourselves. Now consider that most people would be paying the motor trade to diagnose <shudder>, repair and supply parts (including those misdiagnosed). I'd say it's very much worth their while buying a sorted car with some backup.
-
Sorry chaps, but I'm still not convinced.
Ms.Zoom purchased a beautiful red 3.2 Elite from RB.
However, it needed four new tyres, along with new discs and pads subsequent to the purchase, all at Lizzie's expense. :-\
It is a cracker of a car though........low mileage,too. :y
-
Nothing stopping any of us selling Omega's for £3k + .. If someone wanted it then they would pay the asking price . Id say most if not all road worthy Omega's owned on here are in pretty tip top condition to match any garage with a bit of spit and polish ;)

That was my choice and had nothing to do with the actual condition of those items. The tyres were changed because I wanted Pirellies on the car, although they still had 75% of tread left, and the front brake pads had 50% life left, but I decided to replace, and whilst at it the discs as well as a kit, so I know they will last for the next x years ahead.
As I have stated before, I have never had a second hand car before, let alone an Omega, that makes garage staff gasp and say what a lovely example it is, let alone our local Vx dealer who could "find no fault whatsoever" when assessing it for a possible part exchange for a brand new car. Also in the same dealership a mechanic who declared a certainty to buy the car from me if ever I did want to sell.
The car itself I have now had 6 months after buying from RB, and it is still working superbly with absolutely no problems.
I therefore agree 100% with Kevin and Entwood! :y :y :y
-
PS I would also add that it has been an absolute delight to have a car again where, due to it's bang up to date full service record condition, I have not had to work on the car at all. I have had not even had need to top up anything. It is like having a brand new car again! 8) 8) 8) :y :y
-
but I decided to replace, and whilst at it the discs as well as a kit, so I know they will last for the next x years ahead.
Ms Zoom, share with me your secret to brake longevity :o ;D
Glad you are still liking the car :)
As KW/TA say, RB may charge premium prices, but you get a premium service (for a used car dealer). I would add, in my dealings with our very own JoshWyatt, the after sales has been nothing but excellent... ...although he refused to pay for the repairs after it melted last July ;D
The only reason why people sell cars on egay is due to either laziness (so how lazy have they been with the car) or due to no chance of comeback (so what are they hiding). So you can't compared used car businesses, who have responsibilities, with egay.

It is a beautiful example of the marque, Lizzie. A stunning car. :y

It may seem strange TB, but thinking back I have rarely had to change brake pads. Even with my high mileage business cars I found they lasted a lonnnnng time. I have used engine braking extensively, and use a driving technique that means I need the brakes only up to half the time I see others using them judging by their brake lights showing them 'driving on their brakes'!! ::) ::) :y

No, but your wish is my command!
This is what you get when you buy a RB car, at 54k miles, full service history, etc, etc:

I'd be scared to drive that, Lizzie, in case anyone hit it. Insurance companies think they can pay absolute peanuts for a claim on an omega.

That isnt the way peeps are taught to drive these days.....use the brakes instead...the thinking behind this is because pads are cheaper to replace than clutches/gearboxes. :)

Insurers valued omegas at about 3k top whack just over a year ago. So there's a clue on values as well I guess.

Mine is Nocturnal (or what ever the proper name is) - I'm looking forward to getting it up to my standards of paintwork - having said that, MrsGK fell in love with it as soon as she saw it...
Lizzie, that is absolutely stunning - love that colour. Am I taking cock of the poppiest variety, or did Pat and Carl have one in that hue on Road Wars?

I'm not normally keen on Star Silver, but I must admit that yours looks very striking where I've seen it parked at Farnborough Main station. :y :y :y

Would be even better if I cleaned it more often.
I am still tempted to have some body work done on the various scratches but it is a lost cause when you have to use station parking.
I am also one of those black front grilles missing in the bumper but is it worth it?

LZ - that is a stunning example going by the pics. For me, personally, although I like the colour (had a few other cars in not dissimilar colour), I don't think it suits a bigger car. I had a PFL in that colour, and thought the same then. Its a colour that always seems to polish up nice though, and is different from the usual black, silver and gunship grey that all big cars are now.
As to using the gears, I'm old enough to have been taught to drive on the gears, so I refer the (dis)honourable (:P) lady to my previous comment of prescribing some decent country roads ;D.
Although, with a stunner of a car like that, I can understand the reluctance to treat it gently :y

They may think that but when they deal with me they don't get away with it. My green 2.5 was written off back in 2009, and I insisted that I obtain another Omega at least as good after they tried to fob Mel off. The result was I ended up with another Omega, of the same year, but a 3.0 Elite, 15k less miles, and they bought it for a price higher than my w/o Omega had been worth. The difference was about £500!
That Omega was attempted to be written off when I received a bump in Sainsbury's car park, but once again after an argument I persuaded the insurance company (the AA) to have another garage repair it.
I am now back with the AA, and they better look after my current mighty!! ;D :D ;)

I wasn't saying it wasn't a very nice car but at £4k seems a lot and Lizzie that colour is very nice, :y saying that I would pay that for a dark blue one I believe it is nocturnal blue. :-\
Thanks! :y. Yes, there was indeed one of the same colour on Road Wars :y

I think yours is the ideal colour for an omega, Lizzie, but it's all down to personal taste. :y

Thanks TB :y Yes, to me it adds to the fun of driving when you use the gear box to the maximum, and yes again those country roads, the winding ones, are where you can go full out with that type of driving!
A police A class driver friend once taught me how they drive, usually keeping in the highest gear to the last second when braking right down and then using full revs to power out of a roundabout/junction/any type of temporary hold up; frankly his driving scared me, and it didn't seem to hold the joys of using that gear box! :D :D ;)

It matches her 'lippy' on a Saturday night. ;) :-* :-*

I remember looking at a very strange green omega in Reading many years ago - cannot imagine too many of those around

I have only had the pleasure of meeting LZ once, sadly on a very busy day, and I do recall some impressively large heels :)
