Defo sounds like gout.
Get to the Dr, and get some meds.
It won't go away by itself.

Although I never had it in both feet?!?
Maybe your just unlucky.

As you`ve been diagnosed diabetic, swollen feet/hands/extremeties and pins & needles/tingling sensation are usually due to poor circulation which can degenerate into painful neuropathy. Your daibetic nurse will advise on best treatments/courses of action. :y

Can't say... When I got it I had skin burns from deep heat :-[ I mistakenly put it down to a sprain and only went to the quack after being unable to walk for a week ::)

Not sure about the rash, but being Diabetic your feet can do strange things!
About the diabetic nurse though, she will only be able to possibly confirm any thoughts re the gout.
You will still need to see the Dr for confirmation of the actual problem, and issue meds.
It may be gout and your willing to wait another couple of days to see the Dr, but by then you'll wish you'd gone earlier.
Can you still fasten a shoe over your swollen foot?

This is all just my opinion really.
I've been Diabetic for nearly 40 years and only had gout twice, the last time being over 15 years ago!
Good luck!

I have had diabetes for several years now, and I also get gout/swollen feet - not necessarily at the same time.
I have been advised that there isn't a lot in the way of medication that will alleviate the gout; it will go away in its own good time, but drinking LOADS of water. Now that brings another problem, since to help with the swollen feet, I am prescribed diuretic tablets (Fuerosemide), which, coupled with the heavy water intake, means that when out in town you need to be well aware of the locations of the public toilets!
For my diabetes control, I used to be prescribed Metformin, until it damaged my kidneys - similarly with Ramipril for blood pressure control, but now I am not allowed either, for the sake of my kidneys. I need to drink lots of water for that reason, too....
Sometimes the side effects of modern drugs are worse than the original problem.

Emd, I urge you to have an in-depth discussion with your health professionals; it's too late for me, the damage has been done and I am very peeved that the known consequences of taking these drugs were not explained to me so I could have made an informed decision.

I found that cherries are a natural antioxident for gout. I have a small glass of cherry juice every morning. Not had another outbrake for over five years now. Asda sell a litre carton of said cherry juice for a quid, found in the chiller aisle. I also got the gout in the rare form from cheese as opposed to the normal culprits

be extremely and very careful when using furosemide .. if you mistakenly overdose it, your breathing can stop.. also its a burden on the liver alone.. and good news you are not using metformin

Thanks for that, Dr. cem. I am currently taking one 40mg Furosemide tablet, but I have taken two daily in the past. As my ankles are still a little swollen (shoes a bit tight), I asked my consultant at the hospital if there were any contraindications with Furosemide and he said no - no mention of any compromise to my liver function.
Should I stop taking it and live with the fluid retention? Is there a safer alternative?
Thanks,

Ron.

Can I please ask you to discuss such important medical information with a qualified medical professional and not an internet doctor like cem. PLEASE!

Frusemide does not directly affect your liver. And taking a larger dose will not make your breathing stop. On the other hand, stopping frusemide, depending on your cardiac function, can give you acute pulmonary oedema, which can be fatal.

There are alternatives to Furosemide, but they have their own list of side effects.

I try really hard to not comment on medical threads now, but the alarming amount of wrong information being offered from one particular source is scary. The other medical thread again has some very misleading advice from the same source.

So went to see diabetic nurse and she said blood tests are fine  :) I expressed my concern over the Metformin but she insisted there was nothing to worry about as im on a low dosage anyway .
Got to wait for water test results though .
As for my feet i managed to get in to see the doctor today as well , one of my blood pressure pills Amlodipine could be causing water retention .. the rash around my feet is side effect of the other meds im on  :-[ Ive been given more tabs for the pain and see how it goes and if it gets worse i may be taken off the  Amlodipine and onto something else  ::)

Dont you just love getting old  :(

Well...you're hardly old or even getting old. Diabetes can strike at any age. My sons friend was diagnosed with type 1 when he was twelve.

Emd, unfortunately there is an inevitable relation between drug industry and health system..  its a historcally proven fact that a lot of those drugs do more damage then they cure..  a lot of them are withdrawn.. and only god knows from a million kind which are harmless and useful..  and one more point, human bodies dont always gave the same response to the same drug.. so you are the first doctor of yourself.. when you use those pills, watch your body responses very carefully..  amount of urination,  change in apetite, change in excretion, change in skin color, change in mouth taste, sleep disorders, pain etc  generally give early responses about those pills.. if any of them become negative behave accordingly..  :y
