I have had diabetes for several years now, and I also get gout/swollen feet - not necessarily at the same time.
I have been advised that there isn't a lot in the way of medication that will alleviate the gout; it will go away in its own good time, but drinking LOADS of water. Now that brings another problem, since to help with the swollen feet, I am prescribed diuretic tablets (Fuerosemide), which, coupled with the heavy water intake, means that when out in town you need to be well aware of the locations of the public toilets!
For my diabetes control, I used to be prescribed Metformin, until it damaged my kidneys - similarly with Ramipril for blood pressure control, but now I am not allowed either, for the sake of my kidneys. I need to drink lots of water for that reason, too....
Sometimes the side effects of modern drugs are worse than the original problem.
