Title: Saab 9000 update
Post by: omegod on 24 May 2014, 21:20:45
I've been trying dig up the background of my saab 9000 and had a right result this morning. I always write down the previous owners details before the vendor sends off the v5 and wrote to a chap in Blackburn who owned it for 13 yrs, got an exteremely long phone call off him this morning, he kept pretty much a mile by mile diary detailing every job done like ATF and box filter changes every 6k , oil and filter every 4k  :) oh and it also had a full engine rebuild by saab 30k ago  :). Would I like the book and receipts posting to me .....erm yes please!

I put it in for its MOT and it just needs a couple of rear flexi's so pretty happy with it so far for a 21yr old barge. Found a similar age one in a local scrapyard which is a bonus as they are pretty scarce.  Need to crack on with some cosmetics but it seems a goodun so far.

I love these old Saab's and most of the turbo jobbies go like shit off a shovel.

Sounds like you have an absolute bargain. :y

So why did the engine need a rebuild?

Plus, there's been a steady stream of disgruntled saab owners at work, all with starting issue. Diesel mostly.

I like the 9-5s though. Especially the new shape one. :)

These have a single timing chain so he wanted it serviced/changed along with the guides etc, had the head skimmed with new gasket at the same time along with new bearings, shells ,sprockets etc.  Modern saabs are a different kettle of fish to this era

Diesel saabs are GM engined ,petrol engined saabs from this era are fantastic only things that go on them are di packs and crank sensors, keep the oil clean and robert is yer aunties husband.

A Uno SX means that the girls won't even let you get to first base.... ;D ;D

A Uno Turbo means that their knickers are permanently around their ankles. :y :y :y

Little details make all the difference, Sir Tig. ;)

The Uno SX was the one beneath the turbo it had a 1300cc which was plenty for propelling a biscuit tin!  ;)  You're right though the Turbo version went like stink!  :y

As to the girlies, well the SX got the kickers to knee level, Sir Tigger's silver tongue had to do the rest!!  :y

Oh for the Saab 900 Turbo!  8)

When times were hard I actually owned one of these 'pensioner specials'.
It was possibly the worst car I've ever encountered, even with a mighty 1.7 litre lump up front. ;D

I seem to recall that if I had one of the rear wheels on a piece of muddy grass then the other rear wheel would refuse to turn.......just what you need for a harsh Swedish winter. :'(
