It's a case of 'knowledge' really.  Do you know how that car has been driven the last 4 years?

If so, and it's been gentle, and you've serviced it religiously, and you lift the bonnet once a week to check for noises you won't find in the cabin, then.... I'd be inclined to say if all is well, happy days.

The belt is definitely good for 80k, if not 100k+

It's the tensioners which fail.

Question is, do they all become noisy before failure?   :-\

I think Emd should test it to 80,000/8years for the team!  :y

Car has full service history (http://forums.relicnews.com/images/smilies/xmas.gif) Ive only had the car 15 months , last owner was a sensible driver and looked after the car very well (http://forums.relicnews.com/images/smilies/xmas.gif)
Hope it will be ok for a few more month , say spring time (http://forums.relicnews.com/images/smilies/xmas.gif)(http://forums.relicnews.com/images/smilies/xmas.gif)

Mine has previously been done on mileage, 270k in 9 years, so every 80k, and last changed in 2013... next change will be done on time, so summer 2017, and probably at around 290-300k :-\

I would of though between 40-50k would be ok if the history of the car is known  :-\ Obviously change it first thing if history not known especially no known cam belt and roller change  :)

You could always whip the cover off and give it a visual inspection see if there's loads of grease coming out of the pulleys etc.  :-\

I've had two auxiliary belt tensioner pulley bearings go, causing the belt to shred or break. I imagine the cam belt pulley bearings are similar, which is why we change them.

Being  a few months over on time is unlikely to be a problem. I'd be pretty strict on the mileage though.

Its very likely that you'd get away with it by leaving it for a while.  But it'd be hugely irresponsible of me to tell you it would be fine, esp given the consequences if it does go.

But certainly I delayed doing the one on my Silver Bullet until such time I could do it in the warm and dry (only then to not be able to do it due to my accident, and then the garage incident wiping out my tools).

Worth visually checking though, and also visually checking the aux belt and its tensioner pulley - when these let go, sometimes they whip round and take the cambelt out.  The cambelt DVD you have shows how to regrease the aux tensioner, if its not too bad. If its too far gone, replace that (pulley on its own is about £25, don't use 2nd hand)

Aux belt let go when pulley shattered on the old elite , luckily it never did any damage even though the garage it was took to said the motor had seized  ::) Keep meaning to check this as well as everything else  :-[
