do you have a gmail account?,if so its simple :y

Kids brought me a Luminaire 530 for Christmas....I am on 02. Went online to switch sims and balance, contacts, etc...but it did not swap contacts as they were stored on a HD or Card. Does that make sense.
Son in law did it fast manually. I assume they were stored in a folder and it had to be transferred via the PC. :y
Bit of info if you get a problem :y

Save contacts to sim on old phone, then swap sim to new phone and load contacts.

A Lot of older phones have the old, big sims. New phones have the awkward, fiddly smaller ones.

Google knows too much as it is..
-
Create a Gmail account, sync your current contacts on the old phone, then import them on the new phone using the same Gmail account.
If you prefer a software solution due to Google knowing too much already, use Super Backup (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.idea.backup.smscontacts&hl=en)

That's fine if your contacts consist of just a name (with limited characters) and number, but that is all a SIM will hold.
Extra info (such as address, e-mail addy, etc) will only be stored in the handset (or Google cloud) itself.

Fair point, well presented :y

Thanks for the help.
Gmail seems the way to go, and yes there's more than just names and numbers. :y

Not quite. Old new phones had a mini sim, which you could cut down your old sim to use. New new phones have a micro sim, which is smaller than the chip on a big old old sim. Got it? Good ;D
-
Just give both phones to a young person and tell them you'll be back when they've done it. :y

G-mail is so easy, once you`ve signed into your account it will automatically sync all your contacts and photos, I`ve just done it from a reset when halfway through it couldn`t restore from the back up. I wasn`t too happy when my contacts list was empty due the failed back up but half hour later all was magically back there :)

The chip is the same size regardless of whether it is Mini, Micro, or Nano SIM Steve, the only difference between the 3 is the physical dimensions of the plastic surrounding the chip. A normal sized SIM card (currently Mini) can be cut down to either Micro or Nano, but once cut there is no going back unless an adaptor is used.

What about the old ones that were bigger than mini? I'm fairly sure that the chip on the sim from my ancient galaxy was bigger than the sim in the wife's iphone? But, then again, i could be wrong :-\

SIM sizes are as follows Steve:
SIM = Credit card sized (no longer used)
Mini SIM = What your Galaxy (and most other phones) use
Micro SIM = Used by handsets such as the Galaxy S3, S4, etc)
Nano SIM = Used by the latest handsets (eg, iPhone 6)
The actual chip is the same size on all types of SIM card regardless of the form factor that the plastic surrounding it uses.

You are, of course, correct, Mark. I've just looked ;D
Should have known better than to get into it with you. :-[

I haven't had too much to worry about (other than staying alive of course) for the last 4 years (doesn't time fly), so I figured I'd learn phones inside out mate.
