I won't link to it, but that silver MV6 which has been doing the rounds has serious issues that the unwary might not spot... have taken the liberty of asking the seller three questions, the most important of which is regarding the service history...
Hi there, I am considering your car, and had a few questions...
1. You say it has a limited slip diff. Apparently it was never built with one. When was it fitted and what proof is there of this.
2. When was the car reupholstered, and again what evidence of this is there? Vauxhall never offered nappa leather on the Omega.
3. Looking at the service history, the car was serviced on the 8/11/12 at 79k and four stamps later it seems to have been serviced again on 7/11/12 at 98k. Which is correct and are there any receipts to back this up?
I will post the answers, if any, when they arrive...

Well that looks like I am owed three pints then...
i was told the car has lsd by previous owner also the leather is different to elite models the service history both dates are 7-11-12 98k Vauxhall made a mistake and entered it twice in the service book in the pictures looks like 8 but its 7 also mileage looks like 79 but is actually 98 you can even phone the Vauxhall dealer yourself to verify history thx
Which leads me to ask the following...
Hi there,
I take it then that the previous owner had no paperwork to verify the differential change then, as I have a mate who is a service manager at a Vauxhall dealership, and he has been able to get the factory build data from the factory. No mention of a limited slip diff on the build sheet...
Yes the sports seats are a different shape to the Elite ones, but the leather is the same. Neither model had Nappa leather from new.
Regarding the service history, I understand that mistakes happen, but that doesn't explain how Service number 8 was filled in by accident over two years after Service number 9.
Again, do you have any paperwork to corroberate what you are claiming?
Again, I shall keep you posted with any reply...

If Vauxhall put Nappa leather in the anything, it would be all over the brochure...

Well, if it's double or quits, I am up six pints...
i sent the service book back to Vauxhall as 2 service stamps were not stamped the last 2 stamps they stamped but stamped the same one again thx
So what the seller is saying is that the dealer stamped the book for the wrong services in the wrong place... ::)
Still no mention of receipts to back this up, so I asked again...
Do you, or do you not have any paperwork or receipts to confirm any of what you have told me?
It's not a trick question (well it sort of is) which only needs a simple Yes or No answer, but one he does seem frustratingly keen to avoid answering...

I'd be fickin keen to avoid someone like you as well ;D

Well I'll be blowed... Three for three...
no
And my reply...
Ok, thank you for your honesty.
There's no point asking if the car has had all the usual Omega issues addressed then, as without proof of any of the work being done I would assume that they will all need urgent attention.
You might wish to reword your listing to correct ALL the inaccuracies in it, as your answers are public knowledge.
Good luck with the sale....
-
So to be clear, whilst this might be a clean and well cared for car, it has NO reliable history, so anyone considering buying it would be well advised to budget for the following:
Front wishbones
Steering idler
Camcover gaskets
Breather clean (alleged main dealer servicing)
Full service including plugs
Cambelt
Gearbox fluid and filter
Heater Bypass Valve
Coilpacks
So Dr Optis appraisal of the value, (£750ish) is probably much nearer the mark than £1750...
Incidentally, the sellers reply to my last message was simply...
ok
-
I presume he replied ok as he got rumbled ;D ;D
-
OK. I might be missing something, put it down to age,................. but what is wrong with those seats, other than they are leather, they are Omega seats, but I don't like leather...... :-\
-
He stated they were nappa leather, trying to make it sound very good lol

I was sceptical of the 2.2 but having witnessed its capabilities it has more than enough power for everyday driving , easier to work on too ;)

Have you been drinking Mr EMD :P
Actually the 2.2 is adequate. If using for towing, I think I'd stick to manual, which IIRC nay be an issue for you?

Before I bought my first 'proper' Omega (a 3.2 plod V6 estate) I had a test drive in a 2.0 Auto estate.
Oh dear. :-\ :-\ ;D

2.0 much less power delivery than the 2.2 mr opti and being the estate version would be struggling to pull skin off a rice pudding ::)

In reality, not a huge amount between them.

2.0 16v manual went ok, but quite thrashy... 2.2 is more refined, but nothing like as smooth as the v6 :y
2.6 auto is fine for wafting around with decent overtaking capability, 2.6 manual is probably a better drivers car than the auto, but the 3.2 is the Daddy regardless of gearbox 8)
-
Yep. 2.2 is no good for overtaking and just usable for towing.
2.6 is OK for overtaking and OK for towing.
3.2 is great for overtaking while towing 27' of glider trailer. ::)

Now we know the 3.0l is the best engine that Omegas left the factory with. The 3.2 is a pale immitation

I'd agree that the 3.2 is better than anything the Chiltern Slug can offer. If only it didn't keep stalling ;D. Still, "not my effing car"
