Title: Finding a NHS dentist.
Post by: Field Marshal Dr. Opti on 08 June 2015, 12:06:14
All I can find is a 'service' called  the  dental access centre. ???

This works by ringing at nine in the morning  and hoping they can see you that day. Perhaps they can.....maybe they can't. In reality the line is probably engaged for hours just like when you call the quack. Sheesssh.

It gets worse. For a course of treatment as opposed to emergency work the waiting times have so far varied from six to ten months after registration. :'(

Then there is the private sector.

Denplan works out at £45 a month....£540 a year. However, they will only insure you AFTER all dental work has been completed and you have a perfect set of teeth that require little or no attention. Even then the cost of crowns are excluded under the terms and conditions of the policy.

Denplan must be laughing all the way to the bank.

Because I live in a deprived area, rather than the effluence, oops, affluence found in South Lincolnshire, I have a choice of two NHS dental practices and two doctors surgeries. Both are permanently open to new patients.
Quite right too.

Have you tried tying a piece of string from your malodorous molar to a door handle and slamming the door shut? Works every time.......I believe  ;D

I'm sure Mrs Opti would volunteer to slam the door. Watch out she doesn't try a couple of practice 'yanks' first though.

Oooooo.....the pain..... ;D

One of the dentists at my practice is a young lady who has a novel, yet effective way of taking your mind off things. She tends to lean forwards to take implements of torture from the chairside tray, thus planting her left mammary gland firmly in your face.
I have resisted a nibble, thus far.

I've sampled both private and NHS in the past.  In my opinion the private 'butchers' are no more skilled than the NHS.

Same people much of the time.

You still have your own teeth at such an advanced age. :)

Well done you. :y

PS....if you were to go private a nice suck of her tits is included in the price. :-* :-*

Correct, but folk should be grateful that any dentist spends time working for the cash-strapped NHS. I certainly wouldn't.

Yes. Not so long ago  a cultivated eastern european lady aged about thirty was on hand to attend to my dental needs.

I can still smell her perfume even now. :-* :-* :-* :D

Every time an NHS thread appears I am duty bound to comment on the absurd difference between the Uk and other countries.

Either private and pay through nose or hope you can get NHS and pay  a smaller amount.

In Spain there is just private practice BUT pitched very rerasonably midway between NHS and Uk private..

So two questions.
1. Why is UK private so much more expensive even taking into account labour costs?

2. Who is making the money on NHS subsidised dental work?

Because all UK 'professions' always have a tub of Vaseline ready for when a new punter comes along to be royally shafted by their charges.

I think you will find the reason it is so hard to find an NHS dentist is where the slave labour wages means they on average earn only about £90k pa whereas a partner in private practice will normally have to scrape by on £200k+ with the top earners in the NHS making more than £300k, so the top earners in private practices must be making more than this.
